I was thinking about rooting but i really don't wanna mess up my Droid. I downloaded Launcher+ Beta which gives 3-7 homescreens and i'm happy with that. Should I root anyway?

The big question that has been on the mind of all Motorola DROID users has been, "When am I getting my Android 2.1 update?" According to DroidLife, it should be by the end of this month. In calls to a pair of Motorola Reps, one says that the 2.1 upgrade will hit the DROID within the next 2-3 weeks. The other says it will happen at the end of Q1. Let's see, Q1 ends...in March! Of course, DROID owners have been down this road before. To add to this time frame, a forum member at the site mentions that he spoke with a Verizon rep who also confirmed that the DROID will receive the upgrade in 2 to 3 weeks. Once again, it is a case of seeing it before believing it.

While it wont be as nice as those custom roms, I am looking more foward to the bugs it will fix.

i gotta say...2.1 has a lot less draw now on me. do they have a list of features and updates...a multitouch keyboard would be great...
If you want one now, get Smart Keyboard Pro in the app store. It also offers autocorrection for the hardware keyboard.
I was looking forward to a multitouch keyboard till the other day when I got Swype. Now, I don't care if a multitouch keyboard is included with 2.1

I won't be holding my breath. Unless you have any credible evidence your info is as good as saying my Droid will begin to do my laundry this weekend.
Everybody needs to relax. If he is wrong what is the difference. Its not going to bring the release any sooner. I'm not saying he is wrong or right but either way I'm sure I gives a few people hope (not me because I don't need the official 2.1). If you think he is wrong then prove him wrong instead of whining and complaining. Get your own fact or I have a better idea ignore his posts. Some people hear things and rumors and they want to share. If they are wrong it is not a big deal unless you are verizon telling us a date.
Back to the topic, aside from stability is there anything else that will be released that will make people want to unroot?

sorry was workin all day, i was doing a lil sneakin trying to get another droid with my ins. was on the phone with verizon for like 15 minutes talking to them,i told em i was switchin to the n1 on the 23rd, he said at least u will be able to try out the 2.1 since its coming this weekend.startin friday, goin till sunday. i said ya i dont care anyways. he offered this info,i didnt even ask him about it. i seriously dont care since im getting a n1 tuesday. just thought id throw that out there. ill try it till tuesday. if not true, ban me,lol.

At this point the thread is turning into a flame fest. People are getting jumpy and when they respond they don't have any idea how to speak in a respectable way. How many times has a moderator had to lock the threat and manually delete all of the posts yhat were not necessary. Mods, for your benefit it seems like it might be a good idea to just lock the thread indefinitely so you guys don't have to do a weekly cleaning. There is no reason for you guys to have filter the thread when I'm sure you guys have more important things to do.
Because then we will have thousands of threads being created saying "This is when 2.1 is going to come out". Personally as a moderator (of a different board mind you) I would rather have one thread with crap and clean that weekly vs thousands of threads that need to be deleted daily to keep the whole board clean.

ya, the rep thing is what makes me nervous, but with him speaking so freely about it makes me think it could be. it was like, he was trying to make me stay with the droid instead of going nexus 1. i just saw the milestone is getting 2.1 this weekend, so maybe he is right.
Guys, please respect others opinions. If you dissagree with a "rumor", please state it in a civil maner. There is no need for unnecessary flamming or name calling.
Regarding locking the thread, we could do that. However as some have stated
this would only create hundreds of new 2.1 threads popping up everywhere.
