Personally i like a simple, clean layout with a dark background to help reduce battery usage.

Just found out that with nova launcher you can use image from gallery as icon. So I've been downloading image from Google and changing each icon to somehow make it 3D.

In novas icon edit. Select gallery apps. Then use a gallery app you like and select the downloaded image you like.

Also to create transparent image use eraser app from play store
