I HOPE it's coincidence and not today's OTA, but damn - horrible battery performance today. Left my office at 5pm with ('round about) 98% after a full day attached to power. At 9pm I was at 16%

4 hours.

Normal usage during that time, Tweetdeck, GPS with Cardiotrainer, an hour of Poweramp listening. But during that time I lost almost a full battery. That's NEVER happened with my Bolt before.

running great here. 4g signal is stronger than ever.

i think fixing the 4g also improved battery life. it is not constantly searching for 4g and 3g

i left work at 5pm with 100 percent battery.

9:30 86 percent left

usually by this time i am in the low 60's

i have used it as usual

Me too. I've always been able to go all day (12 hrs +) with light to moderate usage. Today after the OTA I went from 86% to 14% in 3 hours with no non-ordinary usage on my part. I hope that it was simply a fluke and not actually a sign of things to come. Also, note that I'm in a strictly 3G area and have my phone set to CDMA auto, so it's not hunting for 4G.

I had my phone plugged into the usb on my monitor at work charging while doing the update. Had 100% at the start of the update, but by the end it went down to 78% while staying plugged in the whole time!

This isn't sounding good. Three very similar sounding situations ...

Well, the USB charge is a very slow charge that ain't keep up with heavy usage such as downloads.

CurrentWidget has been giving me values all over the place since the update...

Battery life has been very erratic because of it I think:

Good - Only lost 55% of my battery with over 2 hours of 4G streaming music (never happened before, usually 80% battery drain)
Bad - Lost 8% after a few minutes of web browsing (never happened before, usually lose like 2-3% maybe)

I had the opposite effect. I left work at 4:30 with 80% and was at 48% at 11PM. Normally I would have had to plug in at some point.

I am encouraged!

I am having this exact issue. It takes 3-4 hours to go from 100% to dead. I used to get up to 24 hours. I see in ASTRO's process manager there are like 5 "Android system" threads using ~5-10% CPU constantly, and my phone feels warm. I've rebooted many times but nothing has worked.

I was hoping to find a solution that didn't involve a hard reset, or at least someone who has done a hard reset and verified this solves the problem.

My battery life has been phenomenal! Took off charger at 9 last night, at 65% now. I am using the extended battery, but am in a 4G area. Score!

If the firmware is updated, is there a chance the phone needs to relearn how to manage processes? Remember when you first got the phone battery life was awful, but after using it for two weeks there was dramatic improvement?

applied the update immediately,
then slowly the battery seemed to get worse.
factory reset to clear out any remnants of the previous RUU (all my apps re-downloaded themselves, SCORE!--nice surprise)

and now i'm averaging 10%battery loss per hour...
so..kinda uncertain how i feel about this update so far.

hopefully, like Skiracer2002 stated, it is just a fact of remembering that our phones have to re-learn their processes and how to manage them properly.

edit: full LTE coverage, 4 bar cell signal strength, GPS/wifi/bluetooth off, screen @ 25 when on, manual sync for all accounts.
battery @ 70% @ 11am, so it's 10%/hour loss...not bad, i suppose.

I'm in the battery is worse camp right now too. But I will give it another day before passing final judgement.

Starting to appear as if 4G battery life is soaring, while us lowly 3Gers are dying. If it's not that then it's gotta be the apps in use.

Just my opinion, but I got to believe the huge discrepancies in battery drainage from one TB to another, must be nearly entirely the result of what Apps have been downloaded to the device, and how it is configured.

There have been many threads discussing ways to improve battery life with proper phone settings and the like, but what we really need is an App that will definitively meter and quantify individual application battery drainage statistics. An App that gives benchmarked power consumption statistics with no gray areas or room for varying interpretation.

If there was such an App, who wouldnt have it on their Android device? Of course, it would be nice if this master power monitoring App didnt gobble juice like a monstrous black hole itself. ;)

Those having bad battery issues - What is your coverage area like? Maybe it is coverage flipping causing the battery drain?

I am in Boston, so I have full 4G and good battery life right now.

I should add ... between 8am and 10am this morning I lost 25% of my power. All 3G. Very not good.

Brett the app piece of this is certainly a good theory, except for the fact that there's no difference in the apps in use on my phone pre- and post OTA. The 3G/4G thing seems to be it. Maybe they've decided to forsake the 3Gers since we'll eventually all be 4G?

I actually saw a huge drop in battery life yesterday too.

Today however; I have been off the charger since 7:30 (it is now 10:40) and with normal use I am still somehow at 100%!!! I am not sure how that is possible, but I think skiracer2002 is on to something...

If you restart the phone, you'll probably drop to like 80% :P

But I would love to know an exact number as to which apps are draining my battery. But I also gotta figure my apps aren't necessarily the problem. They use very little cpu% anyways...
