I feel like the moto x is the perfect phone except the camera. The problem will only feel worse when new phones with much better camera are released. But with the apps editing tools you can make mediocre pictures into almost DSLR quality. I'm attaching pictures before and after for reference.

Some of these might seem overexposed or oversaturated but that's just my personal preference.
This tick was so little, but looks huge in this photo. He is on a Bounty paper towel which looks so big and textured! My dogs hair (yorkiepoo) is so fine and soft but looks thick and coarse in the photo due to the close up. I can't believe I was able to get such a clear close up shot! I think I just used the auto setting. No editing.
Verizon just rolled out Lollipop to the 2013 X so I thought I would revive a dead thread. My urge to compromise by "upgrading" to the phablet-sized Style has diminished somewhat by the fresh coat of Lollipop paint. I'm looking forward to seeing what the Nexus 5X and Droid Turbo 2 are all about before deciding on my next upgrade. Who knows, maybe the 2013 X will keep me until next spring/summer.
At any rate, here's a photo of Dog Lake in Yosemite N.P. that I took a couple of weeks ago. I used the photosphere feature of the Google Camera app and used Picsay Pro to cool the image a bit and increase color saturation.
