Help! Still using my nexus 5x (it works although battery life is terrible and call quality poor).
Since the battery life is so poor, I always need to carry a portable battery.

Until a couple of weeks ago, I could use any portable battery I had on hand and connect with a type A to C usb cable. Now, no matter which cable or battery I use, the portable power will charge for a few seconds and turn off. Is this related to the recent updates (I'm on Android 8.1.0 on Verizon)?

I just ordered a new "Benson approved" type A to C cable from Amazon to see if I can get that to work. Must I order a type C to C portable battery? I want a Pixel at some point so I suppose I could keep it for that, but trying not to pour more $ into the Nexus at this point.

yes it charges rapidly when I use the plug and cable that came with the phone. If I don't use that one, then it doesn't charge rapidly.

I'd wait and see if that Benson-approved cable works properly. If the one you currently have isn't Benson-approved, then there's more of a chance it's causing problems.

Strange.. I've never had issues charging mine from any cable or battery bank. Even using a micro USB cable with a C adapter.
