My unit includes this "feature" at no additional cost.. ver. 0002, Tarzan'd(tm) (knocked off the table and swung while connected to the usb cable, but caught before hitting the floor [I think I just invented this term]) enough to scrape the edges and battery cover a bit..

Just took a look at mine outside of the Bodyglove case, and mine is cracked.
I dunno if its worth taking it back over that. Chances of getting a new phone is slim

I just went to a local corporate store and they all wanted to see what I was talking about. At first they give me the run around about being 3 days past my 30days, and if I was still in the 30 days they would give me a replacement. Then the manager mentions I need to go through my insurance to get a a replacement. But then he says he will order me a replacement, that would arrive at the store in 2 days, except that it will be a refurbished unit, not a new one.

I call *2, speak with Brandon, he says it's a known issue and has to transfer me to a technician that can order me a new replacement.

Speaking to the technician now, she says it is not listed in their system as a known issue and if she orders me a replacement I would be charged for it.

I ask her then, how does it become a known issue, do I have to wait until more people call in about it? She says, yes, that's how they enter it in their system as a known issue, by the callers reporting it.

She then tells me that the replacement I would be getting would not be new, but a refurbished unit. And if the issue becomes a known issue, I could use it as a dispute towards being billed for the replacement phone..

So I suggest if anyone else has this issue to call in and report it, at least that way we can have Sprint know and record it on their system as a known issue.

If you go to the store and or call, to get a replacement, be sure to ask if you will be getting a refurbished unit as a replacement instead of a new one, for your new phone...

Follow-Up; Sprint Technical Supervisor spoke with me and told me to call Telesales since I am only 3 days past the 30 days to see what if anything they can offer me.

EDIT: If you have this or any other issue, call asap before your 30 days or you will be denied.

I talked to*2 and she told me to take it in store immediately and get a replacement.
I called the store to make sure that jives and they are going to give me a new one later this week.
I feel kind of stupid for doing this for such a miniscule thing, but I guess I dont want to take the chance if the piece breaks off in the future.

Uggh. Gotta set everything back up again I guess too. Anyway to backup all the apps and such?

They offered you a "new" one? The manager at the store I went to was only able to offer me what shows on the receipt he gave me, REC9292KI. I personally think they have the option to choose weather to order a NEW or refurbished unit. He told me it was my only option, but he was telling me like he had to make me aware and see if I was gonna really make a stink..

I like to be fair and hope people are the same with me. I really didn't want to get upset or make an issue of it. But truthfully it's not that big of a deal to warrant getting a refurb that will possibly eventually give me real problems in the future..

I am still waiting for any of my local BB stores to receive stock of the black EVO so I can get an exchange. Stopped by again today, and they are more than willing to swap mine out for a white one, but have no idea when they will get a supply of black ones. I only have until Saturday when my 30 days is up.
Now I have to decide on keeping the cracked black one if they don't get any black in stock in the next few days, or going ahead and swapping out for the white.
I really do not like the white.

EDIT: From Telesales, to Order support to Advanced Exchange. Without a hassle, she attempted to put in the replacement order for me and wasn't not able to. She is now transferring me to Escalations to see if they are able to place the order for me.

EDIT: Arrived at Cancellations, unable to provide a replacement through technical support due to having had too many replacements with in the last 12 months. (haha, why too many replacements within the 12 months, perhaps because after paying $549 full retail for a Touch Pro, I was offered only refurbished units that never worked right since? LOL)

MEMO: In order to refresh your account, you would need to cancel for at least 90 days to start out on a clean slate.

PROBABLE CAUSE? Personally I think this issue is caused by having to press down on the power button with more than usual pressure to get it to react, causing this area to crack..

I noticed it on mine a couple of weeks ago....No case on mine.

I also had the same hairline crack on my replaced HTC diamond at the bottom where the round button was and the edge of the phone itself.

I think is just weak points and definatly a manufacturing problem.

None at 30 days when I returned mine...will be picking up a new replacement soon.

they are doing an advance exchange in store and garunteed me a new one from the new ones coming in. He said if I did it another way via eticket, I risk getting a refurb

I guess i have prob nothing to lose by getting a new one, just wondering if its really worth it for this?
I am betting it has to do with the pressure on the button from having to press harder cuz of my case.

I told them the bodyglove case was **** too and left it on the counter and took one of their jelly cases till my Sedio comes in. lol

Personally I like my phone a lot, even with the hair line crack and would prefer not to exchange it, especially risking getting a refurbished one with serious problems.I baby my phone, have kept it in a protective sleeve since day one. I do not let others touch it, for fear they may be careless since it's not theirs..

I did have one of those semi soft covers from best buys, but that made the power and volume buttons hard to press in because they are covered. Perhaps during this time I may have caused the hairline crack and not noticed it..

Some people reporting cracks on both sides and others adding that their volume area showing similar cracks.

It's a design flaw, a defect Sprint and HTC should be made aware of. So that their new units and customers don't have to deal with it.

Personally I don't mind. But it is Sprint's Flagship phone, their baby, first 4G, they are riding lots on this.. Do they want reason for legitimate owners to hesitate buying one?

The manager at the store I originally pre-ordered mine told me to bring it in, have it checked and I would be put on the exchange waiting list..

Is it really a reason to return and get it exchanged? Perhaps not, but it's a lot to do with personal preference and tolerance.

I've seen people with their screens poping out, power buttons stuck, battery cover falling off. They just electrical tape, double stick tape and push down on what ever's poping up...

30 days, $500 (you are still paying that much or more through your phone plan, so don't kid yourself you only paid $199..)

Thanks,

More cracking...

I feel the same way...

Holy Cow! I just checked my volume buttons and I also have a hairline crack near the bottom of the volume down button, extending out to towards the screen. Unbelievable! Never would have even looked there without reading your post. I just have a feeling this is more prevalent, and that people just don't realize because they are not easily noticed.

Ditto to posts # 57 and 58, if it wasn't for a repost of this thread I would have never noticed.

EDIT: It's like someone told me my beautiful hot sexy foreign girlfriend has a mole.. Dangit, she is still my beautiful hot sexy foreign girlfriend, but now I notice she has a mole.. lol

I want to call sprint and see what they will do, but im past my 30days.

Who knows if its even worth the call
