Power button issue

Here is my problem. The power button does not put the Evo to sleep. For example, you know when you are doing stuff on your phone and when you are done with it, instead of letting it go to sleep automatically, you press the power button and it goes to sleep. Well, it is not doing that. It does work when I wake up the phone, no problem there. Now, here is the weird thing. If I wake up the phone, using the power button, and I press it again (before doing the swipe unlock thing) it does goes to sleep. But if I do the swipe unlock thing and and press the power button to make it go asleep, nothing happens. My guess is that I clicked on some menu inadvertently, but it is weird that the power button works one way but not the other. Anyway. anyone has had this problem or, more important, knows how to resolve this issue? Thanks.

I had a similar problem and was up all night trying to figure it out. I could not get it to sleep, but held down I was able to get the drop menu, shut it off but unable to turn it back on. I factory reset it couple of times, still same problem. At my wits end I decided to give it a dust cleaning with air can spray, removed the back and cleaned the corners and the power button started functioning again. It hasn't happened since. I too hit the button to sleep a lot. I'm guessing my fingers accumulated junk somehow in the crevices of the button.

Thanks for your reply but the button works and it wakes up the phone. And like I said, if I wake it up, I can put it asleep right away (as long as I don't unlock it). So I don't think the compressed air is the answer to my problem. I will try it though.

So after trying different thing I've decided to do a hard reset. A pain to dl all the apps back into the phone but at least I have my power button back.
