Ok my power button to unlock the screen seems very hard to push and even a little recessed. has any one else have this problem? i have contacted VW and they are sending me a replacement phone. I am not sure i want to swap it out. I am running a stock phone with GB and my battery life is great but i do get data loss and have to toggle off and on the network. The replacement I am told will not have GB . What do you all recommend?
.

If you are having problems with the power button and it is giving you difficulty, then it is best to get a replacement. The power button could end up not working. As for the replacement not having GB, it has been pulled because of issues so don't know what to tell you about that. If you want to chance it, then keep your original device.. As for as the data, you can set the phone to CDMA and it won't toggle. If you see it is using 3G more than the 4G then use the 3G. Setting it to CDMA will help improve the battery because you won't be toggling. Allowing the phone to choose the data, then it will use the battery more.
I have 4G in the city, but not in my home area. The 3G works fast for me, I don't care about not using the 4G. I would rather not have the battery issues.
If you decide to keep your original, just refuse the package from Verizon and if you need to get a replacement, you can still get one later on. It is up to you. Personally, I think you should take the replacement. Having a defective power button wouldn't be advisable. Verizon will release the gingerbread again when they get the bugs fixed. It is still a great device even without the gingerbread.

Thanks Yes i am concerned about the power button and would rather be on 4g all the time were i live pretty much every place is 4g. I think my problem started after installing GB with the lost data. battery really isnt an issue i am never far from a power source.

The power buttons on these phones have always been a source of complaint. Mostly by design. Although, I suppose some were due to manufacturing errors. But mostly, by design. Most of us have just adapted and gotten used to the almost flush power button.

As far as your data connection issue, you'll most likely see that on a replacement phone too. One thing to remember is that your replacement phone will be required to update to GB in the future too. No matter what (unless you root).

Consider all the above before changing phones. If you don't mind rebuilding to "give it a shot", have at it. Make sure to backup your data.

Based on feedback on these forums, there is a very good possibility that you'll have the same issues after going through the phone swap.

I would swap it out if the replacement is good. You can use it for a day or two to make sure it is ok before sending back your old one. I remember a lot of people complaining about the power button being recessed when the phone first came out. Haven't seen too many complaints lately though.

Yeah, me too. I was attributing that to changing expectations rather than changing manufacturing processes. But...

One thing about the power button, he'll be able to test that before swapping.

I wish the power button on it was as easy to touch as the one on the Incredible...and it is also a tad longer and also on the left side. Being left handed that is the one thing I do miss from the Incredible over the Thunderbolt.....I don't like the power button on this phone and also the battery door is more difficult to remove. These two things are what I don't like about this phone.

Well I was just at the VZ store and checked out the TBs they had on display as well as talking with a tech. My button on my phone has some thing defiantly wrong with it. I guess it was a good call to have them send me another TB. Will just have to wait for them to re release GB. Also how do i back up my data on my phone? Can i just use the VZ back up app or is there some thing else i have to do?

Don't see what the problem is, if I was experiencing problems with power button and data connection and Verizon will replace your phone, take the replacement, The Gingerbread update will be sent back out very soon, if you don't want to wait for update, root it and flash your own Gingerbread Rom, many to choose from. Just my opinion.

I did not realize how bad my power button was until i tried another phone at the vzw store.

I took it upon myself to replace my Thunderbolt's housing not too long ago (I dropped it on concrete and scratch it up horribly). After I put it back together, I noticed my power button was much "clickier." It felt more solid and responsive. The power button on my friend's Thunderbolt, which he's never taken apart, is mushier by comparison. I would guess it has something to do with the housing of the phone, but I wasn't looking to improve the power button's responsiveness when I replaced the housing. It just turned out that way.

The back-up assistant will restore your contacts. First thing you will need to do is take the SIM card out of your old phone and insert it. Be careful to not bend it when you remove it. Then also insert your MicroSD card and the battery. Power it up and follow the prompts. Do a factory reset on the old phone to restore it to original settings before you send it back.......want to clean it out.

You will probably have to reinstall some of your applications. Not all of them will automatically be reinstalled on your new device.

Good luck

Thanks Jude appreciate all the help from you and everyone else too. I wish i wasnt afraid to root would love to get rid of all the bloat ware but i will deal with it. Just an fyi about the power button when checking out the tb in the store the tech had to push mine down with his nail it was so hard compared to other tb.

I thought mine was the only one that was this bad. I will have to talk to Verizon tomorrow and get mine replaced. Thanks for the thread!

Just be aware that when i was in the store they told me that you will have to send you another phone. They do not do instore replacements on the tb do not know how true that was.

Well i got the replacement today Phone in great shape re setting it up was painless. I miss GB though at least the new layout for icons.
