Power button wonkiness

So it takes 3 or more presses of the power button to turn off the phone. Why is this? I thought it maybe had something to do with the fingerprint scanner trying to read my finger so I turned that off and it had no effect. It's super annoying...when I hit the power button I want the screen to turn off immediately!

I just double tapped the screen and hit the power button 5 times in a row and the screen did not turn off.

Try pressing and holding the power button slightly longer.
The quick press and release does not work for me either.
