power thru a otg cable and read thumb drive.

I recently order Micro USB Host OTG Cable with Micro USB Power for Samsung i9100 i9300 i9220 i9250 on amazon. I ordered it thinking that I can use it to charge the phone and read a thumb drive at the same time. I all so waned to use this on Samsung note 10.1 (2014). I was reading in the comment that I would need to root the phone or purchase a app on Google play. Is their any one out their that would know what app I can get ? Or what I would need If I rooted the phone. ?? Please help me
