Pre Defectors How long did it take you to stop doing swipe gestures?????????

It took me about 5 min before I was used to using the back button and home button instead. At first I was a little leary about leaving apps open, but it's nice just hitting the home button and not worrying about open apps. As long as the OS isn't laggy it doesn't matter to me. With the pre, even with all apps "closed" it was still very laggy at times.

I keep swiping myself but other than that, I'm slowly getting used to it! Really mice phone otherwise!

it didnt take me long. I tried to swipe away all notifications for the first few minutes but got the hang of it after a while. havent tried since

Surprising its not been a issue. To be honest i think I like the Android way better. It is quicker and much responsive.

uMM there's a swype thread and the file posted for the Incredible works on the EvO
Not swipe, but swipe... the palm pre idea gestures to make thing easier... and it was.
I found myself swiping emails to delete and in applications to try and go into card view.

yeah i started getting tired of it in my last few weeks with the pre. i would swipe and it wouldnt respond. so long pre

For some reason, swipe hasn't been a big problem for me. The two instincts I'm finding hard to break:

  • I keep trying to slide the physical keyboard down to type. Oops, it's not there. I kid you not, done it about 20 times now.
  • I keep trying to carefully tap off a menu to make it go away. Doesn't work. Try again. Still doesn't work. Finally remember to hit the back button.

Had some initial trouble with the virtual keyboard; always used thumbs on the Pre keyboard, which worked great there, but was a disaster on-screen. Once I started using index fingers, I'm doing great.

I always do the upwards swipe to open the app launcher, and i swipe up and down when the phone is in landscape to scroll up and down a page.

I love the phone and there are so many awesome things about it, but, yes, I miss...truly miss the multitasking beauty of webos. And synergy for that matter...it just seemed cleaner pulling in all things together. I am sure android will catch up, but then again, HP paid a billion dollars for it, so it has some long term legitimacy...clearly.

I'm with you... got my Evo at 6;00am Fri... long time Palm user and Pre lover...
still missing multitasking!!

But considering all the HP uncertainty right now, I felt it was time to try something new. Still keeping my Pre though... just in case.

I have tried to move the unlock sceen up instead of down, and still find myself doing the swipe to delete. other then that i dont find me doing things I did on my Pre

That is hard to get used to. I have had an iPad for a month and still try to use swipe gestures. The swipe just became second nature. I do like my Evo better than my Pre'. It is vastly superior. It's nice to be abble to use the speaker phone and actually be able to hear someone!

I do it when I don't think about it. After it does nothing, I remember that I'm not using the Pre anymore and close (minimize?) the app the right way.

This is going to be hard lol but the one thing i mess the most is not the swipe but being able to hit enter after I write out a text to send the test. I keep hitting enter and the screen just sites there and im like... why did you not send.. oh ya its not webos.

I also keep on trying to delete my email by swiping.

Me too! I thought I was the only one. I too came from a Pre, and I don't swipe, but sometimes I wish I could, to close and app, or to switch to another app. I'm sticking with Android though, definitely a more mature OS, even considering. Hopefully Froyo will make it's way to the Evo in a reasonable amount of time. But I am going to miss the almost monthly updates of WebOS. The thing that I don't miss though, is having to rely on a homebrew community, albeit a great one, to solve problems that the manufacturer/OS Developer should be fixing.

I keep finding myself in the same place. Swipe up.. nope.. stop to think and oh yeah, down. I must admit I am still trying to swipe emails and texts. Other than forcing myself to use the home and back buttons, this phone is so much fun to play with and figure out!
