Pre-Nexus ICS fun (hopefully)

I found a few used ones locally (don't have the nuts to risk bricking my wife's). I'll be taking a hack at this this weekend. :D

its def alot of fun to use.. missing a few apps on here though.. hopefully they are available in ICS on the gnex.

My Files app, Task Manager app.. these both came stock on my fascinate.. I guess I could maybe find them on the market, I'll look for them tonight.

other then that I think ICS is pretty easy to adapt to but it does seem a little less open then previous versions.. but thats probably because of the 2 missing apps I labeled above.

VZW backup assistant and My Verizon app, will both be very much welcomed by me.

Agree I use backup assistant along with my gmail for contacts.

here is a quick minute long vid of me booting it up and showing a few things,

this video is of v2, I updated to v3 shortly after and its even nicer! (has the same startup boot animation as the gnexus)

this kinda makes me want to wait it out on the nexus and get a better hardware phone.. because by time cyanogenmod 9 is out itll be as good as AOSP ICS.

Picked up a Fascinate last night and put ICS on it. It seems run very, very, very well on this thing! I found a pretty straight forward guide and the install went smooth. It was rather easy actually, no root required. I posted the guide I used in Philly's thread in the Rooting/ROM forum.

I have very little Android experience, but I have played with my wife's Fascinate here and there and was never a fan of the OS. Though ICS is a step in the right direction, I'm still a little disappointed. I was hoping the UI would be more webOS like than it is. Maybe it will grow on me overtime, but it drives me crazy that some things I can do with one swipe in webOS takes multiple actions in ICS. Don't get me wrong, there are things that ICS do way better than webOS, but webOS just has a simple, intuitive elegance to it that Android is still missing in my opinion.

That said, I think seasoned Android users will be happy and i'm sure it will grow on me the more I use it.

I received the OTA update to Gingerbread for my Fascinate yesterday (great timing, VZW).

I think I'm just going to hold off on an ICS update to the Fassy, and just wait on the Nexus to get my ICS fix. I'll focus on prepping for the transfer of apps and contacts from the Fassy to the Nexus.

If the Nexus indeed slips the Dec 8th release, then I'll reconsider the ICS ROM on the Fassy.

I am in the same boat. With ICS on my fascinate it doesn't make it as much of I need a new phone as I did with my og droid that was dying(reason I bought a used fascinate) Runs really smooth and am loving ICS.

Yea.. its making it a very hard decision for me, I am probably going to wait a bit and see whats coming out soon.. if its not "next gen" then ill end up buying a Nexus.. I really dont want to wait to long before I upgrade.

But I dont really see what the nexus is going to have that my fascinate doesnt have.. I'm not in a 4g area, NFC doesnt do anything for me, and face unlock would be nice but not worth an upgrade alone.

I guess the nice thing is it has completely quelled my impatience.. I'm now looking forward to CM9, and the Nexus, but not freaking out about either.

My hope is to wait as long as I can.. but who knows.. I could just end up saying f' it and pre-ordering the Nexus the second its available.

edit: I also wanna thank this gnexus wait for getting me to finally bother rooting/rom'ing my phone, If the nexus would of come out a few weeks ago I would of never bothered.. now its like ive unlocked a whole new world of Android.. it shows me that regardless of what phone I buy, once cm9 is out I can pretty much make any phone AOSP ICS.

I do think after a few days with ICS, that ive decided hardware buttons should be phased out sooner then later.. If I manage to hold out till CES, I really hope they shed some light on some very nice phones.. with no hardware buttons.

I am hoping that maybe this time around verizon will get the sgs3. I think samsung knows what they are doing and after how great of reviews the sgs2 got I can only imagine how samsung will improve on that model.

for those of you who havent tried it, its very fast. heres a vid of my fascinate unlocking.. its just as fast as the nexus unlocking.

I got 1300 on quadrant which isnt bad for a galaxy s phone.

update: 1500 on quadrant

not at all, especially since it was getting like 900 out of the box. Getting higher than a droid charge stock=P

I agree with both of you about the possibility of holding off on the GN. The Fascinate runs ICS pretty darn well. I might be holding off on the GN myself, It all depends on how well it works over the next week or so.

Agree. I was surprised how well ICS works with the fascinate. it is amazing how well the phones run without a crappy skin on top of it.

ICS on the Fascinate is running great. I'm still getting use to Android, but I can't find anything wrong with this ROM. Hopefully the dev will get the camcorder and the other unfinished bits working. GPS works great too.

I think I'm going to keep using it while I get use to ICS (I really miss the webOS UI :( ). If ICS grows on me, I might get the GN at a later date or just wait for the next great phone or buy a used GN at that time. I like this phone enough to put the GN on hold and keep my options open.

How are the rest of you guys making out?
