I'm tempted to put my order in for the Maxx right now, but like many here I'm also interested in the details of a few phones that will be announced in the coming days before my pre-order would be set to ship. The X and the G2 (holding out hope for verizon but who knows) specifically. I'm going to be ordering off contract, so for the sake of $, if the X has doable battery with the prices we have seen leak, I may go that route.

Regardless of all that, my question is for anyone that has done a verizon pre-order like this before. Can you cancel your order before it ships and be off the hook? Or will I be immediately charged when I place the order and not able to cancel until I receive the device and exchange it pursuant to Verizon's policy?

It's not really a big deal for me to just wait and even just skip the pre-order entirely and try to pick one up in store on launch day, but I was just wondering what my options are. Thanks!

Typically VZW does not charge before shipping.

Picking up in store is not guaranteed on the day of release.

You can cancel before it ships if you decided on something else. That's my plan.

The longer you wait to preorder the farther back you will be in queue.

I pre-ordered a Droid 2 they day they were announced. (Hated the original Droid's keyboard too much that I waited several months for the D2). During the activation process, they did the contact upgrade to include the data plan. (coming from an old flip phone).

If you are getting off contract and want to be sure this is the phone then wait for it to be released any use the phone in store for a better picture of how you may like it.

Also, remember that you'll have a return policy just in case you have doubts. Let us know what you decide :-).

Good points and thanks. I'm just going to wait until the X announcement to see if it is a low priced phone like some are predicting or if the off-contract price will be similar to the droids. If the X is priced normally, I'll definitely be getting a MAXX. The prospect of being able to listen to music in the golf cart without the battery dying by the 4th hole has me too excited to explain. Or even just using navigation without my phone being dead by the time I reach my destination.

I decided to skip the online pre-order because I live in Nebraska which is not exactly the technology capital of the US and I've always had good luck walking into a Verizon store on launch day. Thanks for everyone's help though!

Awesome, I know what you mean about having a device that will last a good amount of time while being used. I'm on Sprint, and hope to see the Moto X be released at a reasonable price off contract.

I'm going to bet that they will have enough stock of the Droid in store on release day. I picked up a gnex on release day in a VZW store and that was a much more anticipated phone. Just to be sure, i'll come around the time the store opens.

Just preordered the employee edition. I wanted the X more, but the $100 + free ear buds, case and 6 months of All Access Music was enough to out weigh the design choices that made me want the X.

We got in the cases the other day at work and the thing is huge.

I think I'm going with the X, but I seem the flip-flop every day. You make a compelling point for the ultra, however.

What thing is huge? The Ultra? I wish there were some reviews up of the Maxx so I could read more about people's thoughts on the form factor.

The Ultra. Very, very skinny but the foot print is big. About the size of the DNA but with the angled corners. Makes sense given they're both 5"screens but I was hoping the edge to edge tech world make it as bit easier to wield

I really enjoy the fact that someone named phathands liked my previous post. You know that guy is worried about form factor!

I am a sensitive guy!

And yeah I was in agreement that we need some maxx reviews. The moto x was reviewed a day after unveiling. Still waiting on the maxx / ultra reviews!!!

DL is expecting review units in this week, hopefully AC will get them too. I don't expect it to be very different, but confirmation will be nice.

Droid Life just posted their unboxing video. The Ultra is so thin. Like, holy cow. It looks like the Moto Xs shadow when he stacks them together. Stoked to get mine.

I am still looking forward to getting my MAXX, but I am a curious how the screen is going to look. They seemed to see some degradation at 5". I just want the 3500 mah battery. . .

Should be at least as good as the Note 2
