Predict first weekend sales for Evo

How many Evo sales first WEEKEND?

This is another very good point.

For the higher end consumers (large part of the EVO market outside of tech geeks) they are going to be entranced by the new and very powerful iPhone.

If we are making predictions I am going to say Sprint will sell 275,000 units launch weekend and 325,000 units in the first 14 days after launch. Beyond that it is really going to get hard given the new iPhone, Sprint's market position, and the added fees to confuse users.

The more I see the more I am thinking the EVO is being positioned by Sprint as a way to increase their ARPU from EXISTING customers rather than gain any significant number of new customers. This is not a bad thing for Sprint but I don't think it is what they really need right now.

The announcement of the new iPhone on June 7th alone will halt the Evo's sales for most consumers. Except the sales of people like us who hang out in forums such as this. Sprint is not even hyping this device. At the end of the day it should sell fairly well considering what I've mentioned. And a device such as this deserves to do well.

I went to the Sprint store also...sold out.

But I'm going to try Friday anyway.

Sold out on a phone that hasn't been released??? That doesn't make sense. Sprint is not taking pre-orders and hasn't been selling them so how could they be sold out? Someone's yanking your chain or they just don't know what they are talking about.

I've checked with my local Sprint stores also and they all will have devices come Friday.

I agree. I could care less if the EVO itself sells millions of units or not. Coming from WebOS, I'm just glad that the Android platform as a whole has developer support and will continue to thrive. If the EVO isn't a runaway hit, it doesn't doom the platform like it did for WebOS. WebOS is terrific, but without developer support, all you have in the end is a glorified feature phone. As much as I love my Palm Pre and WebOS, there isn't much you can do on it beyond its built in features.

Being that there is almost 100k pre orders through Radio Shack alone. I think the first weekend Fri, Sat & Sun. will have around 200-300k units sold nationwide.

Heard from Sprint rep.....

5 days ago or so that 1.3 million were pre-sold at that time.....hope we actually
find out the real number

^If that were so, I'd think Sprint would boast about it as it would mean Evo outsold iPhone at launch.

The 'pre-registered' number is probably just those who signed up for the mailing list when announced. It's still an impressive number but doesn't equate that many pre-sold.

I highly doubt that many units were presold. I still say opening w/e sales will be around 750K though

As of May 29th my friend over at Shack told me close to 70k units were pre-sold. Being that they stopped pre sales on the 31st to my knowledge, leaving out all BB's and Walmart's pre sales 1.3 million doesn't seem too realistic. maybe 103k units more like it.

Given the overloaded systems due to high demand, what is your prediction of sales for first weekend?

People are so damn dense when it comes to marketing .... So many people are saying that sprintis advertising all over the web ... PEOPLE ... The damn web follows YOU ... if you click on ANYTHING that says "travel to Spain" you will get hit with TONS of ads from spain ... so the only people they are advertising to are the ones that already know and want it .... 2) and here is the kicker ... SPRINT can care less about the EVO sales ... As put by the HP executive " Phones are NOT their business " ... Sprint is NOT in the business of selling Phones .... The are in the COMMUNICATIONS business ... Have you noticed that all SPRINTS commercials are geared around THEIR network ... 4G Speeds ... and then the phone of the day would get a cameo somewhere in the end ... Its about the NETWORK not the phones to sprint ... Which is why you will NEVER see a commercial FROM Sprint that showcases the phone (at least you wont see a g0od one) ... It is up to HTC ... Best Buy ... and Radio Shack to pitch the phone cuz THEY are in the business of selling phones .... Like Apple ... Apple is in the hardware as well as software business so they will put money in the Marketing of THEIR Phone ... ATT does not market Apple's hardware ... PERIOD ... But thats just my oppinion ...;)

Really, Sprint is not in the business for phones? That is hilarious. I'm pretty sure that phones play a huge role in communications.

What I said was ... Sprint is not in the business of " SELLING " phones ... Yes phones are part of the grand scheme of using their service ... I am not just talking out the side of my neck here ... Sprint ... ATT ... Verizon ... Why do you think they damn near GIVE you the phone with rebates ... and giveaways ... So you can sign another 2 year contract ... You see ssome people think Sprint is crazy for giving 3/4 of their costomers the option to upgrade once a year ... But that is the smartest thing going ... Every year they sucker us to sign another 2 year contract for the opportunity to ghet the latest and greatest phone ... That they push to the people ( Via internet ) that are geeks enough to want it ... I can give you solid stats if ya like ... Just stop and think about the marketing for the past 5 years ... Its all educated fact ... So I am here to school you .... ;)

Uh no, actually I'm pretty sure Sprint does want to clear out its inventory of phones they bought from htc/palm/samsung/whoever so they don't have leftover cell phones. So yes, they do want to sell you phones.

They have to sell phones, not every phone is free. So phones like the Evo that a lot of people want they have to market that phone, the manufacturer has to make money off of it too. Do you think that if Sprint only sold non-smartphones they could keep up with ATT/Verizon/TMobile? No. So they have to market and sell more competitive devices so that customers come flocking to them and in turn they make money off 'communications'

Sprint says EVO sold 3 times higher than Pre and Instinct combined first weekend. Pre sold about 30-35K. What did Instinct do first weekend?

Sprint Claims Record Sales For HTC Evo 4G - PCWorld

Fortune says Sprint had 22,000 stores selling EVO. If they sold 200K, that would only be about 10 units per stores, seems low.

EVO likely outsold Droid though, which was about 100K first weekend.
