Predictions: When will the Sprint GNex be released?

The write up about the gs III says something about possible stock Android setting or touch wiz. It sure makes you think about waiting if this is true.

they are talking about a launcher setting. even if true - a launcher setting won't eliminate bloat and won't speed up OS updates on a non-Nexus device.

there's only one Nexus.

yeah Touchwiz is more then a launcher, go look at qbking77 videos showing off the leaked ics builds where he gits rid of the Touchwiz launcher. it still has the Touchwiz pull down notifications, wallpapers, icon mappings, shortcuts, sound files, etc. Its a all inclusive package from Samsung. The nexus is straight up pure as gold android straight from the source code itself with minimal change.

good news if true. why release on a Sunday? has this ever been done before? when?

Looks like Sprint likes Sunday releases.
I found this in the reply section of a story out there somewhere.
I did not do this research, but I checked several of them and they do match:

"The Kyocera Echo was released Sunday, April 17, 2011.
The Nexus S 4G was released Sunday, May 8, 2011.
The Samsung Replenish was released Sunday, May 8, 2011.
The Motorola XPRT was released on Sunday, June 5, 2011.
The Motorola Titanium was released Sunday, July 24, 2011.
The Motorola Photon 4G was released on Sunday, July 31, 2011.
The Samsung Conquer 4G was released on Sunday, August 21, 2011.
The LG Marquee was released Sunday, October 2, 2011.
The EVO Design 4G was released on Sunday, October 23, 2011.
The Samsung Transform Ultra was released on Sunday, November 13, 2011.
The ZTE Fury was released Sunday, March 11, 2012.

The EVO 3D, Epic 4G Touch, Motorola Admiral and iPhone 4S were the only phones Sprint released on a Friday last year."

Interesting.

Edit: Found the above from a reader here: http://phandroid.com/2012/03/17/sprint-galaxy-nexus-to-be-released-on-april-15th/

Then it's settled. Sunday April 15th.

i was thinking Fridays because that's IMO when the last (and only) blockbuster Android phone - the OG EVO 4G - was released by Sprint.

but i'm glad to see Sundays are not unprecedented. this helps to confirm the April 15 date.

i wonder if they will have pre-sales via internet? are you guys buying from Sprint, Best Buy, or other? via store or in person?

my first choice is Best Buy - i like they way they get me in and out professionally and quickly. BUT - other factors will be -

1. who has it first?
2. who will give me the best price after all credits?
a. Sprint - $50-$75 Extra Bonus to some customers? (Rumor)
b. Best Buy - $50 Gift Card Promotion from February 2012 - but can i use gift card to buy phone? (see below)

Best Buy Introduces 'Phone Freedom,' Gives Up A $50 Gift Card If You Register Before February 12

thoughts on all of this?

According to the fine print I read when I signed up for that, it can not (you get it after you pay for it, within 2 weeks if you order online). That being said, $50 can be used to get a spare battery or a case both of which you can't just take from your old phone.

My current plan is to win one in the giveaway.

Once I wake up from that dream, I will go to Best Buy.
I did sign up for the Phone Freedom thingy and I have a BB Reward Zone account so nice points for me.

I am thinking that the only thing left we have to discuss is how much it will be.

I hope it will be $199.99 USD for new line/upgrade/whatever.
I can swing that with the wife as I bought her a Kindle Fire for her birthday. :p

REALLY hope it is not $299.99 USD. That would suck. :(

This was posted today (03/19) which stokes the fire about the April 15th release rumor:

Sprint's Samsung Galaxy Nexus, LG Viper Confirmed To Release On April 15th: Report - Gadgetian

Good info on the LTE and battery savings along with the the "Self Discovery" mode update.

Lookin' awful good. :D

P.S. Also info in USA Today on ICS:

Ice Cream Sandwich for Android rolling out

Upon reading the article in Gadgetian I noticed that it says

""As opposed to the 1.2GHz Verizon version, Sprint?s version of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus packs a 1.5GHz dual-core processor and it will sport the 4.65? Super HD AMOLED display, Android 4.0 ICS build, 1GB RAM, enhanced 5MP rear camera with 1080p HD video recording capability, Google Wallet support with NFC capability

I noticed it says enhanced 5MP rear camera. But on Verizon's Page for the galaxy Nexus it just says 5MP camera.. Could it be a better camera for the sprint version.

Well if its got a 1.5ghz chip per that article then the nenamark # showing the 4470 with a sgx544 will be true. Camera is w.e for me.. been using 5mp on my 3d for awhile now.

My guess is $199.99.

What if they offer white and black?

Ill take black please.

Black all the way. Nothing against white phones, they just get to dirty over time for my tastes. Oh and got a little confirmation on it being a 32GB device. Grabbed this screenshot from the the Sprint Datastorm contest page. :)

Sent from the greatest HTC EVO 4G ever made!!!

OK.
What have we decided?
Here is a rundown as I see it:

Release date: 04/15/12
Price: $199.99
Color: Black
Dessert: Ice Cream Sandwich

I love it when a plan comes together. :p

Did I miss anything? :D

Really I have a evo3d and I have to say, I absolutely hate the camera on it. Pictures are always blurry and have a ton of noise, and it takes pictures like 3 seconds after you hit the camera button.

So the phone comes to Sprint 5 months after intro. I say exclusives are dumb. Offer the Nexus to all top 4 carriers at launch. Get your new flagship product out there into the hands of the people asap!

well I've been CM'd and w.e os's since the first roms started rolling. I cant say the camera didn't have lag but it defiantly was 3s bad with cm7 on it. I also dont buy my phone to use for photography either, I got a nice dslr with macro, telephoto, etc that I love and enjoy. So either way 5mp or not, not a turn away for me.
