Predictive Text has disappeared.

Been using the S6 for a couple months or so now, and found the predictive text feature very useful, cutting down hugely on the keying needed for typical SMS etc.

A few days back, unsure exactly when - noted that the Pred.Text feature wasn't operational. I've dug around and all I find is the usual advice re its position in the menu system.

BUT - in my example of this phone, that option doesn't appear. It was on by default, and some time after the Marshmallow upgrade happened (without my OK!) this development happened.

Also - the onboard user manual doesn't have any entry re Predictive Text.

It's exactly like some overnight sneak "upgrade" has happened and its effect has been to wipe the function out of my phone...

I've dug around in case there was some slight difference to the location of the entry for switching it on - with no result. So - it's gone and any trace it was ever there has also - evaporated.

Android version is 6.0.1
There's lots of other detailed code numbers on the Software Info page but I've no idea what to include or remove - if someone's kind enough to reply and say what's needed, happy to comply.

Thankyou.

Wrong phone. Mine is the S6. This section of the forum's for S6 issues, no?
There is no option in the expected menu section to turn on the predictive text. It just isn't there. And the user manual has no mention of predictive text either - which is truly strange.
I've wiped the cache which seems the usual first step to try - with absolutely no effect on this issue at all.

Forced to adopt a workaround for the present - using the Swiftkey alternative keyboard with its pred.text feature. Assume it's its own anyway, perhaps it's somehow revived the phone's own.
I'm not keen on workarounds as a solution since they avoid the problem rather than solve it! But this one has restored lost functionality without a full system reset which I didn't really want to have to do.

Settings, System, Language and input. Tap on Samsung keyboard, and Predictive text is in the Smart typing section. AT&T.

I have figured this out. It happened to me also. You want to turn off a setting called optical reader.

Settings, Accessibility, scroll to the bottom and Optical reader will be on. Turn this off and it should return the predictive text feature

Thank you so much. Finally i could activate prediction text again by disabling optical reader..prediction works now..

Thanks for trying to help - however - I have the Galaxy 6 Edge and sadly the new 6.0.1 version downloaded and I too have lost my predictive text but I do not have the optical reader feature. Is there any other solution that anyone is aware of?

Thank you very much. I just solved a capcha and created an account to thank you. I've been struggling with this for a month. You're my saviour.
