I just wanted to let everyone know. I spoke with Sprint about ordering the photon on the 28th. I asked them if I would receive the phone on Friday via next day shipping? They told me the phone will not ship until its actual release date (sunday). Idk if they are correct in this but I wanted to pass the info along. That basically defeats the point of ordering early if that is the case.

For those of us that ordered the EVO 3D early through the Premiere Early ordering program it seems that many of us got the phone next day while others received it the Friday of release or the Monday after... So its pretty much a crap shoot... The one nice thing about the E3D release is that it was on a Friday and the preorders started early to mid week, here the release is a Sunday, so with UPS not delivering on Sat or Sunday that may cut down the chances of actually getting it early...

BTW, when I was at the Sprint store the other day, I did get one tidbit of info. The rep said they would be able to start taking pre-orders in the store on 25 July (tomorrow), based on when the appropriate pages will be active in their computer system. Whether all the store reps actually will do it tomorrow is another story, since the official stance is 28 July. I plan to find out at one of my local stores tomorrow.

wow... absolutely pointless to order online then. i guess i'll just cross my fingers that one of the local stores has inventory when i go sunday

Even if they don't they can probably get one quickly. As nifty as the Photon is, it's not going to be another Evo 4G with its two-week waiting list. :)

Personally I'm holding off until I can play with one in store. It looks really promising, but I'm not totally sold yet.

yeah, i'm gonna be out of the country for a week starting sunday night, so it'd be nice if i had something to play with on the plane and my 3 hour layover in NC. Plus, if i figure i don't like it, i'll just exercise my 30-day-return capability.

if i have to take my Pre with me as my source of entertainment, heads will roll

Well, I went to one local Sprint store, and left very unhappy. They acted like they couldn't care less about the phone, or me as a customer. Said they don't have them in yet, and suggested I "keep calling to see when we get them, then we can hold one for you while you come in." No willingness to put my name down on a list now, or anything.

I then called another Sprint store (both of these are company-owned, BTW), a bit further away. The initial rep was clueless, but let me speak to the manager. She was also pretty clueless, but at least was helpful. Promised to hold a Photon for me when they actually got one, and that I could pick it up on the 28th (assuming they had the phone by then).

All in all, a fairly poor set of experiences with Sprint, that will be all washed away if I get my new Photon in my hands Thursday. ;)

I've always found that Sprint's retail stores left a lot to be desired, which is why I haven't bought a phone from one in years. I want Reps in these stores to be full-blown phone nerds, and they're not. So I have to be my own nerd, do my own due diligence and find my devices elsewhere.

Just FYI they ALWAYS say that and EVERY SINGLE TIME I've gotten it next day. They told me 3-5 days with the Evo 3D I got it the next day. I'll be ordering it on the 28th online.

Same here, but better do it before 10am !

Ya exactly. In my 12 yrs with sprint, last 6 or so with smart phone addiction, I've always got my phone next day when ordering online . I think if I remember correctly, it was just a lil after midnight est that the Evo 3D showed up on the website.
