The camera on my Evo 4G is dead and I'll be getting a replacement phone (I have the equipment replacement insurance, so I think it'll cost me $100). My question is: what is the best way to back up my current phone so I can restore to the new phone? I'm running 2.2 (not rooted) with a 16GB card. Thanks!

Steve

Use AppBrain to backup your apps and make sure all your contacts are saved to your Google account.

If your camera just quit working you shouldn't have to pay the deductible for a replacement. That should be covered under warranty.

Thanks. The rear camera either freezes right after a shot is taken or it has red lines all over it. Hopefully I won't have to pay the deductible.

Just take the phone into your nearest repair center for a replacement - no cost, being that you've insurance on the device.

Send your installed app(s) to your Google account using (AppBrain) from the market.(sign into your Google account, then sync all your apps. Remove your SD card - your pics, videos, and stuff are saved on your SD card... so - you might wanna remember that.
Last., reset the device.

Best of luck.

Good luck..

Hopefully they can just pop another camera on the board. Might be a 5 minute job if that's the cause of the problem. I've seen similar things once or twice and swapping cameras worked both times.

It wont cost anything unless you have liquid damage in the phone or it's in rough shape (pieces missing, cracks in the casing exposing the board, etc).

Best of luck.

I use my backup pro, it backs up your texts, homescreens, settings, apps. It works pretty good.

Thanks everyone - I'll do backups a couple of ways (belt and suspenders approach) and remember to take my card out first :-) Hopefully they can just fix the camera since the rest of the phone is fine. I'll let you all know what happens.

Use Titanium Backup. It will backup all of your apps, txts, settings, etc.

I use MyBackUpPro. But i only back up MMS, SMS, contacts, calendar and book marks.
Anytime i do a hard reset i always install the apps back from the market. I never back up the apps them selves.

I also am leaning towards what a few other people have mentioned, try a service center frist and see if its something that can be fixed in a store.
First replace the hardware then if that fails try a hard reset.

i would take that to a sprint repair store...since you got insurance they can repair camera worst case they'll replace device with no charge
