Not even sure if any prep work is necessary, but this is what I have done preparing for the download.

1. Check PLAY STORE for any app updates. Update as needed.
2. Run GOOD GUARDIANS/GALAXY APP BOOSTER.
3. Power down and CLEAR CACHE and restart.
4. Using SMART SWITCH, BACK UP the phone to my PC.

This will give me a good working backup if needed due to a faulty download of ONE UI 5 / ANDROID 13.

Thoughts?

Don't know if all that was "necessary" but it's all good stuff and certainly doesn't hurt to be prepared.

Other than the back up, all of the above will be a little pointless once the update is completed. Apps would need to be updated anyway if there are any Android-13-specific updates, cache would need to be cleared AFTER the update (and this is highly recommended!).

I used to always do a backup of everything and a factory reset before every update only because a few years ago (I think it was my Note 8) an update bricked my phone. I lost everything except what I had previously backed up from my Note 5. I only recently got brave enough to do updates without doing an FDR.

On my pixels I just turned my phone off and back on again (not a restart) and updated, then after the update auto restart, I turned it off then back on again 2 more times and I was golden. No cache partition to wipe on a pixel. 6 years of monthly security updates and 6 OS upgrades over 2 pixels and no issues :p

My Flip on the other hand will be getting a factory reset after every OS upgrade... because so far it doesn't seem to like change lol.
