I bought my Nexus 10 in January and was very pleased with it. I am an avid reader of Ebooks and like nothing better, weather permitting, than sitting out in the sun with a book. Recently for the first time, as the weather was nice I ventured outside armed with my Nexus 10 , I was to say the least, extremely disappointed to find that the screen was completely blanked out and the only thing visible on the screen was my own face, which was exactly like looking in a mirror. As things stand, this device is useless outside on a sunny day, I wonder if there is such a thing as a filter or some such thing that could be attached to the screen to prevent this?.
Any help would be much appreciated,
Cheers.

Have you tried turning the brightness to max yet? That might help. Direct sunlight usually makes most devices near impossible to look at, though.

yea, direct sunlight + any kind of video screen = bad. Not really many ways around that.

Get an e-ink screened device like the kindle. They are great for reading in sunlight. Also they have gotten very cheap.

I just tried Google and found several tablet sunshades and antiglare devices. Go to Google and input "tablet sunshade", "tablet antiglare", etc. and see if any of the multiple devices that appear appeal to you.. You may have to experiment around a bit with different terms or words (glare, sunshade, sun tablet glare, and so on) to find the best solution for your particular preferences.

Some screen technologies are known to be better in sunlight than others. To be honest, I couldn't tell you whether the Nexus screen is better than any other device in the sunlight or whether LCD is better than AMOLED or etc...but I do know that some are better than others. Folks here could probably weigh in on that.

Having said that though, if you really want to READ an eBook outside in the sun, I have to agree that e-ink screen is the way to go. They are cheap enough that most an afford to buy one to compliment a full-featured tablet like the Nexus 10, and are hands down the easiest to view for reading and will put less strain on your eyes in pretty much any light.

As an "avid reader of eBooks", I'm assuming the OP is already familiar with e-ink devices...and I can understand the disappointment if you thought the N10 could replace a standard eReader, along with everything else it does. If you're like me, and only read once in a great while and even more rarely do it outside, then it works just fine, but honestly, if you read a lot then even if using it indoors I suggest a dedicated non-backlit eReader if no reason other than the health of your eyes!

Take my N10 outside into the harsh elements? No thank you! I will continue coddle it in its case, over the carpeted floor.

you mean you dont have your carpet covered with feather pillows ... Just incase?

Well, of course I have that also. Its just on the second layer, it would have to break past the huge layers of bubble wrap and past the unicorn's breath to hit the pillows that cover the carpet. :D
