Just got the Prime G5 Plus and can't tether. Last week, using my Moto X I could. Any ideas?
Also, I can't get my Android Wear watches to connect to my G5.
I have a Moto 360 v1 and a "Verizon" Wear24. Both worked with my X.
Thanks for your thoughts.

Tethering isn't allowed on Straight Talk voice or smartphone plans... Check your T&C.
That said, the answer is simple... Older Moto's (and most other manufacturers) did not honor the tethering provisioning flag provided by the carrier, newer models do. Can't remember if this changed in 2015 or 2016 model year for Moto.
Nearly all phones sold in the US today follow the carrier's tethering provisioned flag... Basically it means every time you try to activate hotspot, the phone checks your service with your provider to verify if your account is setup (provisioned) for tethering, if it isn't it won't enable the hotspot. If the account is setup for tethering, meaning the provisioning check is confirmed yes by the carrier, then the hotspot feature can be enabled.
Work arounds are usually not difficult if you can root your device, although that can have significant additional implications on modern devices, but the Amazon Prime Moto G5 Plus cannot have it's bootloader unlocked or be rooted. To my knowledge it isn't possible to bypass in an unrooted device. This holds for most manufacturers who sell in the US, not just Moto.
The Android Wear thing I can't answer, our smart watches work fine, both are Android Wear, and one is a Moto 360 v1 as well.
