Prior Evo 4G Owners, is it a worthy upgrade?

First Off, I don't care about the 3D feature, but do you guys consider this a worthy upgrade or should I just wait a little longer?

Thanks.

Everything about the 3D is better than the 4G and I'd say it's worth it. Sense is nicer, it's faster and you'll never have to see anything in 3D if you don't want to.

However, there is still an issue that has yet to be resolved. The 4G signal is weaker on mine and it drops more often in places where with the evo 4G I would have no problems. Other people have been experiencing this and even one of the sprint reps at my local store had this issue.

Neither sprint or htc are even acknowledging this and its pissing me off. I'm past my 30 day return too. I don't know if sprint can't handle more 4G users or if HTC f'ed up the 4G radio on the 3D but it's really starting to ruin the experience for me.

Having said that, other people (none that I know) have no issues.

If you can wait, I might wait for a galaxy s2, if you have that option. Go into a store and try both the evo 3D and the motorola photon and see which you like best. If you get one and don't like it, use your 30 day swap.

Hi! I came from the EVO 4G myself. I didn't think I would care much about the 3D feature either, but I find myself using it quite a bit. JMHO, the EVO 3D is a worthy upgrade. Depends on what you want and what is important to you though. Very soon you will be bombarded with posts from a particular person who will swear that you are an idiot if you do not get the Photon. While the Photon is a nice phone, I am not a world traveler and have a phone for work so that is not important to me. Call quality, reception, and camera are great for me. I also enjoy the full HDMI mirroring available with MHL. Good luck in your endeavors! :)

Whichever I get, I will be paying full price for. I really want something with a faster processor than the evo 4G. But I saw the photon has 16GB of storage plus the sd card, so that is interesting to me. But I saw the Evo 3D does hdmi via micro usb. So I'm torn right now. I was holding out for the Next Nexus, but who knows if it will even be on sprint. Thanks for the comments and the warning about a certain member.

Both the Photon and the 3D do HDMI out, they just require slightly different cables. Just an FYI if that's a concern for you.

My question for 3D owners as an OG Evo owner: does the altered aspect ratio of the 3D screen interfere with your apps at all?

it is well worth it. Trade in the Evo 4g and get the evo 3d cheap. But even at $199! It is worth it. While the phone has 3d and the ads pimp it, it is actually a very small part of the phone.

The screen on the og evo seems bigger because it is wider, but the evo 3d is longer and higher resolution. No app problems here. My wifi and 4g is much better then my EVO 4g was. The 3g tower in my area is still out so I roam on 3g at home so I cannot give you any info on it. Mostly wifi and 4g when out and about or Wifi at home. No 4g coverage here, but but there is two blocks away.

Personally, I got the EVO because of the sense features & because I feel that HTC has a better track record at updating the OS/software. If the photon had Sense (and if motorola is good at updating the software like HTC), I would have gotten the photon - more onboard storage, GSM slot (Perfect for my overseas travel), kickstand (what?? I like it!!!)

I found the EVO 3D to be a good upgrade from the EVO 4G. I didn't buy it for the 3D, so wasn't really expecting much from that feature. The rest (improved performance, new sense, more storage etc) are awesome!
(I bought the 3D from craigslist - it was brand new - never activated, unopened - got it at about $350 - no contract)

No, run far far away from this device. I am on my 3rd one and will have to take this one back too. Imop, its the worst phone I have ever had. No signal in places I got signal before, shuts off for no reason, and over heats, the battery sucks too. Two hours of use than I have to recharge, that's pretty bad. The EVO is way better!!!

Personally, I would wait for a near future device. The 3D is a nice upgrade but there some software issues that needs to be address before its considered stellar. The new Sense, 3d, Smaller Screen, that stuff gets old within the month. Put it this way, im ready for the next big thing, Ice cream Sandwich.

Its not a problem with the apps. But you can tell the difference. I prefer the original EVO ratio. I would rather have that then the 3D effects/camera.

I have had zero problems with the 3d. I was getting over heating and shut downs on the evo 4g, these have disappeared with the 3d. I haven't noticed any difference with connectivity, 4g and 3g are the same, phone calls are the same, battery life is way way better on the 3d. As to the screen, it is a little narrower, but it is also longer. It is a true 16x9 now. I don't think it is smaller than the 4g, and the crispness of the qhd screen is fantastic. Mo pixels = mo better. As to speed, super fast compared to the 4g. I didn't really like the older sense, so I ran Cyanogen, I find that I am really liking Sense 3.0. I absolutely love the lock screen.
So, take this review how you will, you know what they say about opinions, but I for one am extremely glad I made the upgrade.

I'm so over the 3D. It was cool at first, but now I never use it. I DO love the speed. Oh, and you'll miss the kickstand.

I have the original Evo 4G and the 3D is definitely a worthy upgrade (and I don't even use the 3D aspect of it). Evo 3D has an upgraded processor, Sense is improved, and the battery life is a definite improvement over the original Evo (I get about an extra 4 hours with the Evo 3D). As far as the screen goes, its gorgeous. Its a little bit narrower and taller than the original Evo's so for me, that makes it fit better in my hand. I also like the fact that the 3D's screen is a true 16x9 aspect ratio. When I watched 16x9 video fullscreen on the original Evo, I had black bars on the top and bottom of the screen (because the screen wasn't 16x9). With the 16x9 Evo 3D screen, the black bars are gone and the video takes up the entire screen. The increased resolution on the 3D's screen is really nice also. As I mentioned before, even without the 3D, the Evo 3D is a very worthy upgrade over the original Evo 4G (at least in my opinion). The only thing I wish it had was an integrated kickstand but there are cases that have those builtin so its not too big of an issue for me.

Not worth it to me. 3d wasn't why I got it. Hardly ever use it. My Evo 4g was def more sexy just slower. Honestly I miss it. This 3d is alright. Definitely fast. Just not as thrilled about it as I was for my 4g. Maybe cause the 4g started it all. I still have no 4g in my area so that don't help. Also my 3g signal keeps disappearing and cutting out when downloading or streaming. Does it constantly when making a phone call. The 3g and the arrows below it will disappear and my call won't connect. Very Very annoying. Thinking of selling it for something else.

it is a great upgrade in my opinion. But don't expect it to be like coming from whatever phone you had to the EVO 4G. The EVO 4G was pretty revolutionary. Plus this is just an improved variation of our old EVO 4G, so the user experience will pretty much be the same. But I am glad I got it. It is very snappy. 3D features are pretty cool to show off and to play with every now and then.

But if you are looking for a drastic change, then go pick up a photon or wait for the galaxy.

as far as I am concerned it is a very nice upgrade from 4g phone is much snappia

Yes it's worth it for the dual core and much better battery life alone. The 3d is just a bonus!

its definitely an UPGRADE. If your looking for something different from the original Evo, get the Moto Photon or wait for the SGSII Epic 4G Touch as they say.... I had an OG Evo (still do, cant seem to part with it, memories....) and this phone definitely tops the OG Evo, i love the qHD display and built in task manager. battery life is pretty good too. Gotta have root IMO though,
