Privacy on Android

Yes, but I don't see how that harms us. We'd see ads anyway. Google's info makes the the ads relevant. I guess it makes us spend more, but that's our problem, not theirs.

I don't think most people have thought this through very well. The harm isn't necessarily in what you might spend - although in the case of some who find temptation irresistible that might be relevant - the real danger is what is shown in your search results. Google has already been accused for filtering results and excluding items that don't come from advertisers, and I for one would rather live in a world that doesn't allow advertising to prevent me from seeing all answers to any query I might submit.

That's why if you have a Google account, give as little info as possible.

Zero privacy in everyday life = even less privacy when on a phone or computer. What I do is never give up any important info to anyone or anything on my phone or computer. I also do not use my real name on anything. That is why I was totally surprised at how popular Google Wallet had become. I thought it was doomed from the start because I can't imagine having my credit card attached to anything Google. Same with banking apps. For me, totally crazy to do banking from my phone. Wouldn't dream of it. I know some (especially younger people) call it paranoia but I haven't been given any good reasons to be less paranoid. The privacy issue is one of the reasons brick and mortar banks and retail stores still exist.
I agree. Did you know you don't have to give out your credit card info for credit card transactions? Some financial institutions offer something called Shop Safe, or an equivalent application. It allows you to create a virtual credit card for each transaction limiting the dollar amount and the expiration date. These transactions are linked to your real credit card and show up on your statement just like any other transaction. I use it for all transactions where I don't have to personally swipe my card. I don't use Google Wallet much (it was set up by accident when I purchased some software through the Play Store), but when I do I just add a new credit card with the information of my virtual card for the planned transaction.

I know this thread is old but in addition to what you did I also use duckduckgo as default search engine, Firefox beta with add-ons for browser, also izik and disconnect search. problem is there are certain apps that need Google
