Probably a dumb question, but...

I have a Verizon version of the Note 10.1 but no longer have Verizon service. I have removed the SIM card and been using this as WiFi only, as it doesn't seem to be profitable to sell this used and buy a new WiFi version.

My question is, since I don't have Verizon anymore; how would future Android updates be downloaded to the tablet? I'm assuming there is no OTA push for WiFi?

So, should I try to root? Is there such a thing as just removing the Verizon bloatware and leaving all of the Samsung software/firmware? (If you can't tell, I've never modded/rooted an Android device)

Thanks in advance!

The updates come via Wi-Fi. I have the Wi-Fi only version and it got the last update. No problem.

I guess I'm wondering if they will, though, since this thing must be looking for Verizon updates and not Samsung updates.

I know several *APPS* have settings "Only look for updates via WiFi?" and my cheap LG smartphone has also a thing where you set it to look for Android updates via WiFi, for you, I would think , either check settings and/or just force check manually, you should be able to get what is available via WiFi

That's a good and I'm not sure what the answer would be because I purchased the Verizon version at first too and it didn't have the lasted updates so that I could use chrome, twitter and other apps in multi window mode. I'm assuming that's bc it was the Verizon version and sometimes they don't always have the lasted updates. I returned it to get the wifi version with the lasted updates.

I have the VZ one too and am moving to ATT. I have already 'jailbroken' it, but I now need to find the right ROM to flash so that I can use it on ATT.

You can only get updates from VZ unless you are rooted.

I don't see how y ou will be able to use a Verizon 4G/LTE tablet on the AT&T network????

not only different networks but different network typologies (AT&T and T-Mobile, are both GSM, and if carrier unlocked, devices can work on both networks, although not always at full speed). I wonder if you can update the device via Kies? Just asking, I dont know.
