Problem using car audio system with usb on S4

Hi

Hope someone can get me an answer why i cant play music in car audio system using usb cable with the new Samsung galaxy S4.
With previous phone this was never a problem, it act like a diskstation, but the S4 will only charge using it with a ordenary usb cable, using the orginal S4 usb cable it says connected as a mediaunit(MTP) but car audio dosent recognize it. (theres been a new filesystem added or what?)
I can use Blutooth but it dosen't seems to work well either(cracking up, volume up/down by itself so on)
So do anyone know whats the reason and how i can get it up running?

I'm having the same problem. What's weird is it will work on my Prius with navi but not my Kenwood in my other car that has USB input. Why is it iphone can get theirs to work on everything but samsung can't?!!

i have this exact same problem in my honda civic but with my iphone/ipod i've never had this issue. it makes no sense to me!

Having the same problem with a Kenwood stereo. I just got my Galaxy S4 active a few days ago, and I gotta say I'm starting to miss my iPhone 4. It played fine using the usb cord, with the exception that it would play the first song in the alphabet of my play list that I got sick of certain songs quickly. The galaxys4 doesn't play at all. I can't even get it to play over the BT audio either. Typing is also a pain in the a$$

It's not a problem with Samsung or the S4. How could car stereos that are older than the S4 and the current Android OS be compatible with it? Many car stereos (including my Jensen VM9424) were specifically designed to be compatible with iPods and iPhones when plugged in via the USB port because they were very popular products.

However, my unit was specifically designed to be used for the iPod Touch 3rd generation and earlier but it works well with my 4th generation. But, as another poster stated, it automatically starts playing the first alphabetical song from my playlist, which I assume is not supposed to happen if they had specifically programmed it to work on my 4th generation Touch.

With the popularity of the Galaxy S4 I?m sure some new car stereo units will be programmed to work with them, but I?m pretty sure an 8-track car stereo won?t work with an S4 either?

That's a weak argument.

USB data communication is a standard. You follow it or you don't. Samsung doesn't because... well I don't know why but they don't follow it for Bluetooth which Apple does and why their devices work better with USB and BT. It's not because people coded it for them (some may have) but real respectable business will follow a standard.

The problem is that Android (not Samsung) has moved from using "Mass Storage" over USB to MTP for USB data connections. They are still "following the USB standard", but it's just a different protocol. My guess is that if you car stereo can't read the files on your phone, it's because it isn't compatible with MTP.

Again, Samsung has nothing to do with this, it's become an Android standard...blame Google if you have to.

There are tons of reasons/explanations why Android moved to MTP/PTP for file transfer (example), and while I'm not sure I agree with all of them, that's the way is.

I'm not sure about Bluetooth, though my S4 connects to my stereo and plays music just fine in my truck over BT.

Also, don't forget that iPhones were built using Apple's iPod music player for media playback, which many devices are compatible with...it's one clear advantage the iPhone has always had over it's Android counterparts...

Just to expand on the post I made above, the primary reason Android now uses MTP for data over USB is because when using traditional "Mass Storage" protocols the file system has to be dismounted from the phone in order to be mounted to the USB host device, which is why in the past the internal storage in Android devices had to be partitioned so that personal storage wasn't on the same partition as the system and app data. With the advent of today's phones with much larger internal storage, everything has now been moved to one partition so that the entire amount of usable space on the drive is available to the user to use as he/she sees fit...but the problem is that if that partition is mounted as mass storage then it could cause a great loss of functionality of the phone itself (which most folks wouldn't like very much). MTP allows for the device to share out the users' portion of the internal storage without having to unmount any system drives or risk exposing system directories to a foreign system. This is better explained in that example link in my previous post.

I found the same thing paint said. Unless you root your device and use a third party app, you cannot get this to work. The app lets you change to mass storage mode. As a new convert to Android, I do find that annoying.

Thanks for the explanation guys. I have the same problem (lots of unwanted noise through Bluetooth connection) and wish to connect my car audio through USB. Any suggested third party software that can do the trick?

Greetings, I don't really know if this problem is already solved but I'll try to give some feedback to you people who have issues with when the smartphone is connected to the usb port of the car stereo. So heres the deal, those sort of equipment (talking about car stereos) only accept file format Fat32. This means that usb drives must be formated on Pc (windows/Linux/Mac) with the format of Fat32 instead of NTFS in order to work on stereos/hi-fi systems etc.
This can be an issue or its something else. For those smartphone who have SD card (it should be formated earlier just like a usb drive [a.k.a a pen drive] before storing the tracks.

(Already tested this and it worked with a usb drive, not with a SD card,but the purpose is the same, they both are storing devices)
