problem with HTC inspire

I'm trying to root my htc 4g inspire and doing so I want to get the gingerbread software can somone tell me how am supposed to do this. My phone currently isn't rooted so I understand I first have to root it and then go from there but I am just so lost can SOME ONE HELP ME PLZ:
Also is there and uprgrade for ice cream sandwhich for the HTc Inspire 4g
