I prepared a music album on my PC and edited the ID3 tags to force the order in which the songs are played. After having copied them to a folder on my Nexus, Google Play Music app does not respect this order. How can i correct that ?

Welcome to Android Central! Is it playing in alphabetical order instead? How did you try to force the order -- by editing the Track Numbers? If it's playing alphabetically, edit the filename (not the ID3 tag for Song Title) so that it starts with a two digit track number (e.g., "01 Where The Streets Have No Name.mp3").

Hi, thanks for the reply ...maybe a more lengthy explanation. i edited the tracknumbers on my PC (with Windows Media Player) and copied the songs to my smartphone where they showed in the correct order. That was ok. Then i noticed with the iTag app that some songs didn't have a tracknumber (according to iTag). I added with iTag the correct tracknumber for 1 song and now that song appears in Play Music on top (it was maybe stupid to use iTag). I deleted that particular song from my smartphone and copied it again from my PC, but the problem persists,

Do the track numbers still look correct using Windows Media Player?

Yes, there the order is respected as soon as you modify the tracknumber.
If i connect my smartphone to my pc and use WMP to open the smartphone folder where the songs are located they appear in the correct order. So something is fooling Play Music

You didn't upload those songs to Google Play Music in the cloud, right? Assuming you didn't, try clearing the app cache/data for Google Play Music in Settings>Apps. When you open it again, it should rebuild the database in a few seconds.
