Problem with ringtone

Please bear with me, I've been with BlackBerry for 9 years and this is my first Android. It's an Idol 4S running 6.1.

All seems good so far but when I set any ringtone, it sounds great when I set it but when a call comes through its so quiet I can hardly hear it. Especially with a case fitted.

All other tones, email, sms, , Facebook etc. are fine.

Is this a known issue or a fault with my device?

Check your volume settings.
Ringtones, notifications, etc, all have their own levels in android 6.x.

The ringtone volume slider is set to max. I've also set it to max from the phone app but it seems that whatever I do makes no difference to the volume when a call comes in.

When I set the slider to max, the test ring is quite loud, in fact it's the same volume as all other notifications.

Sorted. It was because of my ringtone length. It was too short and I didn't know that all ringtones are ascending only on this phone.
