Problems after new ROM on Droid 2

I have a Droid 2 with Gingerbread. I rooted it with SuperOneClick and installed Clockworkmod Rom Manager and "Droid 2 Recovery Bootstrap." I completed backups with MyBackup and Titanium and then did a Nandroid backup of the then-current ROM. I proceeded in doing a data wipe, cache wipe, and Dalvik cache wipe through Clockworkmod Recovery. I had downloaded Cyanogenmod 7, so I went ahead and installed the zip from the recovery screen, as well.

Problem #1:
There are no Google-related apps or account setup stuff with the CM7 ROM. Therefore I have no Market, so I am unable to get the Recovery Bootstrap app that I need for the Droid 2. (Apparently the regular CWM Rom Manager doesn't reboot into recovery with the Droid 2, from what I've read.) Figuring I should get the g-app stuff, I read that I needed to download the most recent g-apps zip file. Since I don't have the Recovery Bootstrap app, though, how am I supposed to get to the recovery screen to install it? I tried the standard Android recovery screen, but it only looks for "update.zip" and not other zip files.

Problem #2:
In going through a walkthough here (forums.androidcentral.com/thunderbolt-rooting-roms-hacks/77350-guide-how-backup-restore-install-roms-thunderbolt.html), I got to the point where I need to install the radio file, so I went ahead and downloaded the file and put it in the root of my SD card. It's supposed to be installed at the bootloader. I get to the bootloader, but everything I've read says to press the up or down volume buttons to install the radio file. My bootloader screen doesn't do anything when I press the up/down volume buttons, and doesn't even have a menu of choices that I could choose from, anyway. Although this is not my actual phone, this is basically what my bootloader screen looks like: bit.ly/sFG5dm

I've been messing with this since 3pm ET, so excluding a short break for dinner, I've been going non-stop for about 10 hours. Needless to say, I'm exhausted and my brain is fried. I have read so much on so many websites, but I cannot seem to get past these roadblocks. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Thanks for your reply. I just tried doing the restore as you mentioned, but after going through what appeared to be the restore process in the recovery boot screen, it told me something about the data image was not found. (I forgot to write down the exact message.) Thinking that maybe it was because I didn't do a wipe, I went back to the recovery screen and wiped, but it still couldn't restore.

Thoughts?

Next thought.

You say you have something of a CWM recovery. After all, you are able to do wipes. Yes?

So, why not download the gapps.zip to your pc. Copy to SD, then boot to recovery and "Install zip from sd"?

Or maybe I'm confused and need some Friday alcohol....

This is exactly why I'm posting to a forum.... so I have many sets of eyes looking at what I'm doing. :p

Yes, how did I not notice that I was right there at the recovery screen! For some reason I can now get into the CWM recovery without the Recovery Bootstrap app.... don't understand it, but I'll accept it for now. :D I went ahead and installed the g-apps package, so my phone is currently updating itself with all my Google account stuff. Problem #1 resolved!

On to Problem #2....... How do I install the new radio file with my phone's bootloader? It doesn't appear to have any way to navigate or select a file. As I mentioned in my initial post, here is what my bootloader looks like (although this is not my picture and is actually a picture of a Droid X.... appears to be the same bootloader, though):

Great! This is why I work better with Friday rum ;) (don't forget to hit thanks)

Now, I don't have a droid 2. I have a desire, and a newly purchased desire s. But if I'm not mistaken, you do it the same way (been over a year since I flashed my radio. But, you should really check that link I sent you. Or check out xda-developers, Droid 2 forum for the specific procedure for flashing the radio.

Did you check the Droid 2 forum here at AC? Post it and hopefully some Droid 2 users know the procedure for the radio flash.

As far as your bootloader, we don't have the capability to do that. Bootloader and Recovery are 2 different animals. Root and recovery, just finds a way around the bootloader security. The only people who can change bootloader versions, is usually the manufacturer. And this is usually done through an OTA update.

This I believe, is the procedure. Note that I believe the Droid 2 is called the Droid Incredible 2. I believe (here in Europe, we call the devices by their manufacturers names, not the carrier names). But, you have to make damn sure you have the correct radio file to flash. If not, you WILL brick the device, or at the least, make it unusable.

So, do your homework, and make sure you always flash the correct file for your device.

Glad I could help you out!!!
