Problems assigning ringtones to contacts

As I'm slowly setting up my phone I've finally gotten around to ringtones. I'm having trouble assigning a specific ringtone to a specific contact. It appears that if the contact has a picture the option to change the ringtone is greyed out. All contacts without a picture I can change just fine.

Since I like to know who is calling without pulling the phone out of my pocket...this is really starting to bother me. Can anyone see if this is a problem with your G4? I'm on Verizon btw.

One of those settings that should be off by default.

Took me a minute to figure it out, would mess up Priority settings also.

Hey,

I've turned Ringtone ID off but I still can't get the phone to use my custom ringtones. It works for a while then stops.

The issue is that when it stops working and I edit a specific contact to choose their custom ringtone, it plays the standard ringtone whichever song I choose. As if the phone thought all my different songs/ringtones where the same...

Any ideas?

I know this is an old thread, but one thing to check is if the custom tones are saved to Internal Storage or the SD card. It works best if they're in the Ringtones or Notifications directory on Internal Storage.

Yes I have been having nothing but problems setting personal ringtones in my contacts. Everything was going great and all until I had to get a new phone and I downloaded an app to save all pics numbers and so on. Now that I have the app I'm no longer can set personal ringtones in my contacts. I already deleted the app to see if that was the problem but that was not it. Still have the problem and no one knows why or can help me.

I have the new ZTE 4 phone and I'm having nothing but problems setting personal ringtones in my contacts. My old phone the ZTE 3 I could set personal ringtones in my contacts with no problems. I need help!!!!

I have a ZTE Prelude Plus and had the same problem. Per the user manual it says to edit the contact and click on more fields. Well it's not there either. BUT I was able to find it by creating a Group for the people I want to have a custom ring tone and editing. There are only 3 fields, Members, Ringtone and Notifcation Ringtone. I hope this helps you.

P.S. I found it easier to add Groups under Labels on my PC/laptop. Go to contacts.google.com. Select the contacts you wish to add to a Group. Then click on the icon that looks like a tag in the upper right. Select or create a new Group/Label. Now the Group will be visible on your phone. Select the Group you want to edit. On the menu select edit and now you can give that group a custom ringtone. Click on the check mark to Save. You can make a group of 1 if you want to give that special someone their own ringtone.

Rich's response was an excellent way to manage your groups as it's way too slow otherwise...

If your phone supports it, you can set Ringtone ID to Contacts and for anyone that you want to have a special ringtone - add them to your Favorites.
