Neither my wife nor I nor Volkswagen can get U11 contacts into Android Auto. Phone will dial/answer and play music, but the contacts just won't sync. HTC M9 used to pair but not the U11. Doesn't matter if we pair by USB or bluetooth, the contacts won't sync, so caller ID won't work and we can't dial favorites. VW says it is an HTC problem. At the dealer, everyone else's phones paired and transferred contacts.

I am guessing this is a problem with HTCs People app.

I use Android Auto via a U11 in a VW as well - I have not tried using the native VW software for contact syncing. I never experienced problems syncing my contacts using Google contacts. Perhaps exporting your HTC contacts to Google contacts will solve the problem. Also, be sure to check the settings in the dialer on the U 11 to make sure that Google contacts is checked and set as a phone book. Hope this helps. :-)

We have a 2017 Golf with the MIB II system with Android Auto built in. It has the latest firmware. We have tried Google Contacts (I actually downloaded the APK for the latest Google contacts), importing contacts from Google to the phone, reinstalling GMail, Google calendar. Everything works except contacts and favorites (for dialing). Doesn't matter if we sync by USB cable or use Bluetooth. Contacts just don't transfer to the MIB II.

Try one contact only. Simply ad a +1 on their phone number and see if that will work. Worth a shot after all of the trouble you've gone through

Same problem, except I have a Volvo with their Sensus, non-Android Auto system. BT works great (much better sound than my Nexus 6P), but there is absolutely zero contact sharing, both via the native app, SIM card, or via other contact management apps such as Google's native app.

Well, today all 1004 contacts have synced via Android Auto in my Volkswagen. I can't tell you why, but now I have favorites and can call with one touch. Not sure if HTC People is updated because Google Play Store keeps crashing on the device.

EDIT: HTC Contacts was updated November 2017. But Android Auto was updated Feb 14th. VW has not updated the software in MIB II audio system. Whatever the reason, contacts synced and caller ID in car working again. That only took 9 months.
