Problems switching from front camera to back camera

Unfortunately this is the second time I've had problems with the camera on the HTC one. The first time I had issues with the video (which has now been fixed).

Now, I cannot switch from the front camera to the back camera. When I click on the 'Settings' button inside the Camera app it doesn't give me the option to do it. Also, rather than just say 'Camera' when I click on the 'Settings' button, it says 'Picture Camera Mode'. Does anyone know how to get out of this mode? I've also noticed that my Zoe is missing from my camera app. I was able to take photos two days ago so this only happened recently.

Well, have you tried restarting your device ?? If that still doesn't help then I would say think you may need to get to the nearest customer support for fixing it up.

You shouldn't be clicking "Settings", you should press the Modes button (the four dots within a square). That contains all your camera modes, including front/rear and Zoe.

I've been trying that button but there are only two mode options: Scene and HDR.

I think you're still pressing the wrong button because scene and HDR don't ever show up in the Modes menu. You may have to factory reset if your software is messed up but look for the Modes menu first.

Is it the icon in the top left hand corner with three squares stacked on top of each other?

It's a square box with four circles in it in the bottom right corner for landscape and bottom left corner for portrait. You can also swipe down from the top of the screen in any camera mode to switch to the front facing camera (or to switch to the back camera as well).

I tried, but couldn't replicate that. Do you have ANY camera app or an app that is allowed to control the camera (for snapping shots within the app)?

One other thing you could try is going into the camera settings and then scrolling down to the very bottom of the pop up and hitting the Rest to Default. Just in case there is a some sort of setting that is causing the issue.

Click on the three dots, then the gear (this will bring up the pop up menu) then at the bottom "Rest to Default"

Also, to quickly change from front to back camera, you can swipe to the left and this will switch them.

I've tried resetting to defaults but nothing happens. Also swiping from left to right has never worked for me in switching the camera around.

And Bowie, I don't have any other camera app.

Also Bowie, I noticed you posted from HTC one M8. I'm only on standard HTC one. Not sure if that makes a difference.

Oh, you posted this thread on the M8 forum, so the replies you get here are for the M8. Maybe a mod can move this to the M7 section or a former M7 owner here can help you.

Also, can you post a pic of what happens when you press the multi-colored button in the corner?

Hey, you know there is just a gesture to do this, right?

When you have the camera app on, just swipe from the right edge of your screen to the left. It is that easy. Your camera will switch instantly between the front and the back.

You do NOT need to go into the app settings to switch between the front and the back cameras.

He has an m7, not an m8.

Op, do you not have this option in the three dot drop down menu? If you do, you should be able to click on the front/main text and it will switch

The Camera subheading has disappeared. So I only have Photo Capture Mode.

Also I just tried downloading other camera apps and they default to front camera view only. I can't access rear camera at all.
