Problems switching from front camera to back camera

Also I just tried downloading other camera apps and they default to front camera view only. I can't access rear camera at all.

Sounds like you may have a hardware problem. If it's new, see about getting replacement/repair asap.

Your rear camera is no longer visible to the system hardware.

AShum88, I had the exact problem that you are having, including the screen shots being different (wrong). I have a HTC One X. The problem started immediatelty after I had the battery replaced. I took it back to the local guy who replaced the battery. He took it apart and found a "loose connector". He made a good connection, and now I have the camera both ways, and the menu on the upper left (3 vertical dots) now shows Camera options as either Front or Main correctly (did not show that before). The loose connector must have made the software not recognize two cameras, and adjusted the screen accordingly.

So, did you, by chance, have your phone worked on before your problem started? If not, maybe your camera simply went out, and the software is not recognizing it. I am not a techie, but hope this helps. I found your post when my front camera went out too. Good luck.

I'm having this same problem, just had to buy another phone. I'm wondering if accidently dropping the phone would result in the rear camera hardware getting a loose connection, resulting in not sensing the mode option?

One other thing you could try is going into the camera settings and then scrolling down to the very bottom of the pop up and hitting the Rest to Default. Just in case there is a some sort of setting that is causing the issue.

Click on the three dots, then the gear (this will bring up the pop up menu) then at the bottom "Rest to Default"

Also, to quickly change from front to back camera, you can swipe to the left and this will switch them.

My phone won't let me switch it from left to right or up and down

This worked for me:
-Restart your phone on safe-mode
-Go to camera app, you'll see the switch button again
-Restart your phone as normal
-its there

I’ve HTC one Mini , os version 4.4.2.
Not able to switch to front camera , I did factory reset , no use. Just after factory reset , when opened the camera app it does give a message “swipe to switch between main and front camera ” but if I swipe - the screen brightness changes but not camera 🙁 , really frustrated burnt lot of night oil ,
I remember it was working earlier , all of sudden stopped working , thought might be due to other apps I installed. Strange even for factory reset its same ( note after factory rest I’ve not restored any data to avoid any conflict )

Also I tried below but no luck:
-Restart your phone on safe-mode
-Go to camera app, you'll see the switch button again ( I didn't see the button )
-Restart your phone as normal

Any help please , please

I have an HTC one Mini 2. Rear camera stopped with "cannot start camera". Was working fine for six months. I've tried every fix I could find, including hard reset. I've rooted the phone after unlocking bootloader so that I could run a Camera Restart tool, but although the tool seems to run OK, it does not solve my problem. A few users have reported HTC telling them that their rear camera module has "fried" when they have returned the phone. One person replaced the rear camera module, but this didn't help. So I'm now pretty sure this is a hardware failure, and short of opening the phone up to check the connections, I don't see any solution. My warranty has just expired too. The only thing I can think of that may have caused the issue is that I used the "Flashlight" app on highest power for about 10 minutes a few days before I noticed the failure. Could this have overheated something? Who knows? Very frustrating, as I love the phone apart from this issue. Difficult to sell it too now. HTC seem to have been very quiet on this issue considering how many reports there are of HTC users having problems with rear camera.
