Problems with the Epic

I am looking for some ideas about how I can try to fix my wife's new Epic. The data connection is constantly cutting out and the download speed is very slow when it actually connects. My EVO sitting right next to it with the same reception will pull about 900kbps while her Epic won't even get above 100.

Also, when I try to update her software in the settings it disconnects whatever data connection is open...both wifi and 3g... and times out. She gets network failure errors when trying to surf the web.

Does anyone have any ideas that I can try to fix these issues? This phone is also only 4 days old now...could it just be a lemon that we should just try trading in?

I have tried that. The data connection drops every time I try to update anything in the settings. The 3g symbol on the phone disappears and it eventually times out... same happens with a wifi connection.

I'm sure you've tried this but try turning the phone off and removing the battery then putting it back in and starting it up. If that doesn't work the other thing I can think of is a hard reset but maybe someone else will have some ideas as I'm a bit new to android myself.

I recommended doing a hard reset/factory reset.

But also check what baseband version you have?
Is your phone up to date? You should be on the DI18 update.
Make sure your not on DI27 or any other old version.
The DI18 update is what allows for the data speeds to sky rocket. Mine went from like 400 kbps to like 1000+ with a good connection.
Also removes the 100kbps (or whatever it is) upload cap

Thanks for the help guys. I took the phone into Best Buy and they had sprint reset the data connection on their end which didn't fix the problem. Then they tried a factory reset and that still did not fix anything. So they traded out our Epic with a new one.

So far the new one is working like it should...so we must have just gotten a lemon the first time.
