Question Profile picture flickers when opening or refreshing

Hi,

I have recently switched to a new phone (Pixel 8 Pro) and noticed that when opening Gmail or when swiping down to refresh, the profile icon flickers. I normally use a picture and when flickering it now changes to a basic coloured background with a letter I never used. I cleared cache and it seems to help for about a few seconds, then goes back to it. Is this a glitch or should I worry?

@b.Diddy thanks, not happening in Safe Mode. Then, interestingly, the restart on its own seems to have helped for now, even though before it didn't.

Welcome to AC!
Sometimes going into and out of safe mode fixes glitches so maybe that's all it needed.

Let us know if it comes back. If some app you installed was causing the issue, it might recur.

Thanks all. I gave it some time and unfortunately, it came back. It doesn't appear on other accounts I have on my device. Just the one, which makes me think why just this one?

Go to Settings>Apps>Special App Access>Display Over Other Apps, and see what 3rd party apps have that permission turned on. Experiment with turning that permission off one by one.

You could also try reset the Gmail app by clearing it's data and force stop it but you'll have to add those accounts again

@B. Diddy - except Google itself none of the apps had this setting turned on.
@mustang7757 - after ding that, all the side icons turned to the colour they had when flicking, although the letter remained my own. The main profile colour icon is different. See attached.

Yeah they defaulted, does it still happen? The flickering

Yes, it still happens. I couldn't find a pattern when it comes when. Seems quite random. For context: now, the letter colour changed from red back to brown. When it flickers it comes back to the original red and other letter.
