Anyone else using project Fi? I've never used it until now and it's working great for me. Previously I was with T-Mobile for almost two years. The only concern I have is the price of data. I'm not entirely sure where these open hotspots are that are mentioned on the project Fi site. I figured I'll give it a shot for a few months.

Love Fi... Been using it for almost a year..

I never go over my 2GB plan so I get a refund every month..

Yeah, if you are paying $20 for 2GB but only use 1.5GB you will get a $5 refund!

Fi ROCKS

Another Fi user. Fi is awesome. I was very happy with tmobile and Fi is even more 'un-carrier'

My wife and I use Fi. Our bills are constantly around $28 each and I expect that to decrease now that we have a shared plan.

As you use Fi, you'll learn tricks for minimizing your data while still using your phone. I suggest joining a Fi community on G+ since they have lots of great tips.

Been using fi for 8 Months. Never went over 400 MB of data usage a month. I'm always around wifi at home and at work. And you learn not to use your phone when you are driving so you can save on data usage. Best safety feature ever. Love it.

I'm not currently on Fi, but I was last year with my Nexus 6 and loved it. If I wasn't on a company plan I'd be back on Fi in a second. It's a great great service and it's only going to get better.

I've had a Nexus 5X on fi since June and basically it is great: best cs experience of any MVNO, decent pricing for low data usage, great deal if you want to purchase a Nexus 5X ($249, 32 gb) with no interest. The auto-connection to Wifi hotspots almost never happens in my case, but is that because I don't live in a major city? Still, I have wifi at home and at work, so usually get by on less than 1gb per month. I love the fact that I don't have to worry about going over because I just get charged for what I use. Coverage has been OK for me, but I live in an area where I can drive out of coverage pretty easily.

I've tried it and it works great. The seamless transitions are awesome. Needless to say it was only a test run for me since my usage would cost me a small fortune.

I bought a 5x 3 months ago to try fi because of the BS im getting at Verizon. Just tired of all the things verizon deas to jack up the prices without telling you. So far, I'm loving it. I'm on wifi a great deal so I signed up for the 1 gig of service. I've been getting credit every month. I've never had a bad signal and I went pretty high up in Maine. Its also just as clear and fast as Verizon. I was going to port my Verizon # over and get a pixel. But with them being OOS, who knows when I'll be able to get one. I've even tried my fi sim in my verizon S7 EDGE and it works, but only on T-mobile. It wont switch to wifi. You have to manually connect. So if you have a phone you want to keep using, and dont mind being only on T-mobile, you can do this. And I called fi to make sure that they won't shut down your service, and they will not.

As for tips to reduce data usage on Fi, I do the following:

  • Turn on data saver on phone and limit which apps have a free reign
  • Go through each app in app settings and disable background data
  • Enable http compression within chrome. Chrome is a data hog if you don't enable compression.
  • Download offline areas in google maps. I have several tiles created and downloaded. All you miss out while in Wi-Fi mode is traffic - POIs and rerouting are intact. When I am not trying to get somewhere as fast as I can, I navigate with wif-only mode.

T-Mobile is the best service typically. We were in a pretty remote place last week tho and I actually got USC for the first time.

I've been really happy with Fi over the past year. The one time i missed Verizon was when we were visiting Alaska this past summer. My wife's Verizon iPhone had 3g and 4g data, while i could do no better than 2g on Sprint. Verizon still has the best coverage, but I wouldn't go back to Verizon.

Nice reading through all the feedback here...Fi is something I'm seriously considering.

I just received my Pixel XL 32GB (black) today and switched to Project Fi. So far so good! Data is not big deal for me... I have Wi-Fi at home and work and free Wi-Fi is everywhere.

Just yesterday I was hiking in the Adirondacks and I was happy that my Nexus 5X on Project fi will switch networks. My buddy was on T-Mo MVNO, meaning he could only use the native T-Mo network, and we found that in places, like the top of the mountain, he had no signal while my phone had switched over to Sprint and I was able to get usable data speeds (3G only in this remote location). Also, in the summer I go to an island that is shown on the fringes of coverage on most maps and I noticed that at various points my Project fi phone would be connected to any of the three carriers: T-Mo, Sprint, or US Cellular. My wife's phone was on AT&T and it seemed that I had a signal any time that she did, but my phone might be connected to any one of the three networks.
