Proximity screen off

So I installed an app called "proximity sensor off" from the market. I started the service and decided that it was inconvenient and installed the app. However, the service did not stop. The phone thinks the app is still installed, so I can't download it again. When I try to start it, it turns off the screen. What can I do? This is quite annoying.
