PSA - cracked screen

Okay folks, I'm here for a public service announcement. I got my S6 edge yesterday, I've had it for less than 24 hours. Even though the case hadnt shown up I carried it anyway and since this is a slippery little bugger it fell today. It fell onto its corner in a parking lot, not more than a 4 or 5 foot drop. There are little baby scratches on the bezel, but the biggest surprise that there is a crack on the screen. The phone did not fall on the screen. I'm not completely devastated because I did buy AT&T's insurance, but think it's ridiculous that one very minor drop is going to cause this kind of a crack. I'm not sure if I should put this through insurance or if I should harass AT&T to send me a replacement because this phone is obviously much more of a delicate little flower then they suggested. Anyone have any advice?

Yeah .. with the edged display I don't think it will take drops very well -- Cases are a must.

As soon as a cracked screen happens, the person is always so quick to say how delicate/shoddy the phone must be....

You dropped a piece of glass man... whether it's gorilla glass or not, it's still glass...

You mean to tell me that the screen cracked after it fell on the corner. The location that research shows over and over is the most susceptible place for a screen to crack of dropped on?

I am shocked and amazed I tell you. Shocked and amazed.

Yeah, I take full responsibility for the drop but I had an S5 that I dropped like 50 times and never a crack appeared. The reason for my "PSA" comment was merely to advise everyone that, despite great claims of Gorilla Glass 4 and reviewers who talk about how great the phone feels without a case, get a case. I honestly thought this would be stronger, it isn't, and I am willing to be the test case so everyone doesn't make my same mistake.

I feel for you I really do. I am sending back cases that I don't like so I am caseless, I ordered the wrong "note" screen protector I got Note Edge instead of S6 Edge so I am without that too. So what to do, I put my new S6 Edge on call forward to my work phone for the next 24 hours until my case and screen protector arrives. Just not risking it.

On a positive note, you will at least get a brand new S6 Edge under insurance and not a refurbished unit.

That's true...although I am getting mixed messages from AT&T. Something about needing the insurance in place for 30 days before I can make a claim. Dealing with Asurion now, can't wait to see what's thrown at me next. My husband got the new HTC M9 and wouldn't activate it until he got the case. I thought he was nuts. Turns out he is way smarter than I am!

My only issue with your logic and attitude is this...

If this was an iPhone it would be #CrackedScreenGate all over the nighly news

That "gate" just like the others would of simply of blown up because of social media..the Internet. Forums like this one.

Everytime on here I see someone mention a problem with an android product all of a sudden the world has developed common sense.
Yes of course it's glass. And yes I totally agree with your comment.

But why didn't I see comments like this for bendgate iPhone ? The s6 edge has it's own bendgate and people dismiss it with comments like yours. "Imagine that it bends because physics "

Where was all this for the iPhone launches ?

Meh..just a little mini rant. Carry on.

BTW I own the s6 edge.

Bendgate was mentioned on iMore before it ever hit Android Central... Blame Renee... Baaaaaa

Hope it works out. I had Asurion insurance on my S5 and they were easy to deal with when I needed a new one.

There are so many variables. I am sure that the s5 has cracked for some even on the first drop. With that said, I am not surprised that the edge screen is more susceptible to cracking, given its glass edges and thinner frame.

I will say that Asurion for AT&T made this process very painless. They immediately filed a claim, but didn't have the phone to send me. I said I didn't mind waiting, I completely understand why the phone isn't available yet. Instead, they told me to go buy a new one off contract, and they'll just send a check. So I know I'll be getting a new branded phone straight from the carrier (or in this case, Best Buy).

LOL it's hard to take a picture of a cracked screen when your only phone is the cracked one but I'll try to borrow someone else's camera and post one!
