can't even get past the first line of instructions, keeps saying "device not found". trouble shoot guide says to install drivers for your phone (unrevoked or adb). i installed the unrevoked drivers on my computer.

BASEBAND VERSION: 2.15.00.11.19
HARDWARE VERSION: 0003
BUILD #: 3.70.651.1 CL294884 release-keys

I am using this guide --->[ROOT][GUIDE] HBoot 2.02/2.10 SOFF - The Savior Edition - Upd. 12.26.10 - xda-developers to root

mabye i shouldnt root, this may be too much for me. :(

Did you turn on USB debugging? from the home screen go to start menu settings applications development, enable usb debugging.

Did you run z4root before hand to get root access?

Yes, I ran z4Root at step 4A, which reported successful root.

FYI, I tried running z4Root after a reboot, which again said successful root, but I can't get TI Backup to run, which says it does not have root access.

Are you on z4 root v1.3?

I have had lots of issues using z4root. I got it to work one time out of about 25. Others have had success with factory resets, then running z4root. I will give that a go in a couple of days when I root, but am happy I had the opportunity to backup some stuff with Titanium the one time it worked.

yes i did. i installed the unrevoked drivers to my desktop and unzipped
-----> hboot_2.xx_soff-V8.4.zip placing it in f:\root. (f:\ is my main drive on my dualboot computer not c:\ in case that matters)

which screen should my evo be in? should I be in hboot or should i be on the home screen when i start? also my phone was in "charge only" mode.

Hello all. Im new to all of this and I would like to root my evo (my info for my phone is android 2.2, software version 3.70.651.1, hardware version 0004, hboot 2.10.0001) is this the correct link to follow per the instruction above.....Rooting:

For any phone with the official version of 3.70 you have to follow this guide: [ROOT][GUIDE] HBoot 2.02/2.10 SOFF - Root! The Final Frontier Edition - Upd. 12.21.10 - xda-developers

do I have to have a rom to install after I root the system?
should I back up my current system before i root it?

Yes, that is the correct guide.

If you want, you can get z4root first and then install titanium backup to get temporary root access (you'll need it anyway in the guide) to backup your current app data.

When windows pops up and says it needs device drivers to you point it to the unrevoked usb driver?

i did it last night, do i need to point to the unrevoked usb driver everytime i plug it in or just one time?

Just once, it should install them and you should be good to go.

Rumor has it that the new Unrevoked is coming out today for an easier root method.

I tried the new Unrevoked, but it didn't work for me. I just did a factory reset, and was finally able to get rooted following the directions.

Need some help please. I am just rooting and I am floowing instructions and it says open Command Prompt. When I click on ADB it opens the prompt and then closes it. What am I doing wrong?
