PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT - HTC Update and Factory Reset

That may or may not work for each individual. Nonetheless, it wouldn't hurt either.

I usually just do a reset. :)

Ok, I don't have an option for privacy anywhere in my settings.. Maybe I am not seeing it.. I must be blind.. LOL

You're not blind, I'm wrong. I just flashed the new OTA and it DID NOT re-install my apps the market as it does on the rom I usually use. Bummer.

Z4root (temp option) plus Titanium Backup worked perfectly! Thank you so much for the tip. Essentially I am still stock without the bloatware. I did my research to ensure the apps I was deleting were OK to get rid of, so please keep this in mind if you do the same.

I was able to delete Amazon mp3, Blockbuster, Nova, and Nascar. More to come perhaps....!

I do want to mention that it was a pain in the ass to use Root Explorer to delete the bloat apps, I followed a couple different sets of instructions I found and nothing seemed to work. Titanium did the job, though it was a little annoying having to reboot the phone for each uninstall. Since this got off topic from my original post, I'll put this information into a new thread in the Hacks section.

I have had my evo for over a month now and even after the update it works and performs just as good now as the day i bought it. One day if a reset is needed,I shall, until then,, if it is not broke, leave it alone.

Sent using taptalk.

After owning my Evo for about 3 months, after this OTA was the first time I did a Factory Reset on my device. I've experimented with quite a few apps, many of which I then later uninstalled, so I figured it would help to clean up my device a little. I think I ended up gaining about 20 MB over what I previously had, though I don't know how much of that was from apps and how much was just miscellaneous junk of mine that was cached to the phone. Everything was still running smoothly for me beforehand, but I figured this couldn't hurt.

I'm one of the ones that read your thread and followed it.....updated finally on Saturday and did a factory reset right after(which by the is a major pain in the a** reinstalling everything :-)) but turned out to be well worth it.....it cleared out all of my recent lag....restored a lot of memory and just gave me overall better performance....Thanks for the heads up!!!!!!!

For those of you who did a factory reset, are you able to install the HTC Quick Record widget from the Get more widgets screen? It downloads and shows to be installing but then nothing and the screen does not show it installed.

I did a factory reset. While I can't say it's faster, it sure did clear out apps that I wasn't using. The market remembered paid apps, I needed to reinstall free apps that I cared about. I've got tons of space now, 335MB. Also, the market is the old one again, I lost the new one during reset, but I'm happy about that due to the 15 minute refund crap.

Mine went to original for a few mins...but if u open, let it sit, close and reopen it should go back to the new one

Thank you for the suggestion. I figured out what the problem was, I think. GPS wasn't working correctly. Google Maps had me about 20 miles away from my home and Weather couldn't locate me. I went outside (hadn't done that all weekend--big rainstorm), gps relocated me and my market got updated. Weather is working too.

I do not like the new market.

Did this Saturday and was happy to see MUCH improved quadrant test results! Was annoyed that market did not remember my apps, as I now cannot find G tunes, one of my most important apps to directly download mp3s. I also lost all my game data, so that's bogus, but an ok trade-off for fresh performance.

I had removed all the bloatware using z4root and titanium backup. Will the bloatware gets installed again if I reset the factory settings?

:) Could be, but perception is reality and it definitely seemed to help in the past. The defrag analogy is a good one, which is why I think doing it every few months keeps it fresh. No doubt that things will get messy again eventually. Regardless, I wanted to throw this out there for people who may be having performance issues.

Ironic as it may seem, this update (now that I have it) is kind of pushing me to root as I have zero need for the new apps that it brought and its borderline offensive to me that they can't be removed from the stock phone.

Perception is not always reality my friend.. Thanks for the advice..

Good Catch. I had this widget before and now its not letting me add it. Says its Downloading but then that dissapears and does not install.

So I can help a little w/ this one. I had to get a replacement device two days ago due to a burn spot. Before updating the Sense version, I added back all my free apps and widgets. Sticky notes and a couple others were added successfully, but the recorder did not, so apparently this widget isn't actually available now.
