Publication says HTC One outselling SGS4

Well all I know is I am doing my upgrade and the local AT&T authorized store is out of the HTC One, but guess what they have. I will have to drive 30 mins away to get it or order it.

Apple's numbers have been mixed actually. And given we're at the end of their product cycle you would expect to see their numbers fall off a cliff. When they reliably release a phone around the same time every year I'm shocked they sell as many units as they do in the second half of that product's year.

Cook is a supply chain guy. He has inventories as high as possible for release time and will dwindle them to next to nothing just as demand is withering. He's a master at this. The lag won't change much.

Not I! I got the S3 on launch and I renewed my contract with att. Att called me and offered me an iPhone 5 with a renewal. Then I had gone to my local corp store and asked if I could use it on the HTC One as I have no interest in any apple product. To my surprise they let me! After clearing it with management. I know not everyone is in the same boat as me but att has been great! Much better than Sprint.

As someone who works at Best Buy mobile and deal with these csrriers on a daily basis, ATT easily tops the rest of the carriers when it comes to allowing early upgrades. They always try to work with us and the customers.

Yeah I have LTE in my area (mostly.. Still being built out) so it isn't to bad network wise. Just wish I got LTE at work .

And yeah they won't let me upgrade since I'm in contract. I would have to buy my phone full price if I was to get the One. .

How far along on your contract are you? Depending on far along, they will let you buy out your contract and get a new phone. Up to 1 week in advance, it is 50 bucks...after that up to 3 months is 100 bucks...up to a year, it's 175 bucks. So you can upgrade, it just will cost a little more....besides, they will let you add the buy out to your next bill!.

You can always buy out your contract. Depending on how far you are in it could be cheaper than paying full retail.

It is so tiny of a savings it would be better to buy full price and not relock myself in.

People want this company to survive, a company which is also depending on its device to survive, I think these sales could potentially affect a lot of people. I don't know where you got the idea that no one cares about the sales.

The truth in some form will come out in the financials.

I'm pretty sure Apple is the only one who breaks it out in their financials. I know Samsung doesn't.
Also I would not quote Giga Om as an authority on anything. They are chasing advertising dollars just like everyone else and say some really ridiculous things.
Read their S4 review as an example of what was left out. It was practically a Samsung ad.
*Note* I am not in the S 4 or HTC One which is better group..if there were an HTC One on Verizon I would get it but will most likely replace my Note 2 with an S4 when and if Verizon gets a 32 GB version. I'lll just have to rip the guts out of it to get it to work like it should.

BTW maybe someday people will realize that all that matters is profits. Shipped, sold whatever means nothing if they aren't making money.

Profits is what I was focusing on. HTC netted hardly anything last quarter. If they meet or excede their expectations then we will know sales were great of the HTC One.

Wait, so the S4 claimed to sell 4 million in 5 days or 5 million in 4 days, I don't remember which off hand. Now this is saying they sold less than 5 million in 30 days? What gives?

Also, what is he quoting on HTC's side? They haven't released anything other than the, "anonymous sources" from another thread that we all agreed to ignore.

Lastly, The Hustleman is right... the vast majority of us don't own Samsung or HTC stock or work on a contingency/bonus structure for those companies or their suppliers... so other than it's somewhat interesting in abstract, why care about sales numbers?

Im kind of lukewarm on HTC, and not because I hate the One for any reason...HTC is in financial trouble because of a long series of terrible decisions starting well before the HTC one X line... too many products, no emphasis on marketing or advertising, and outright terrible management of the carriers to get updates rolled out in a timely manner (at least they're trying to fix this and have met with some success). Ultimately, HTCs survival is a good thing for consumers, but I sure as hell learn the lesson that the market is fickle, and maybe they'll come out stronger...more humble at least, I don't know. I'm encouraged by the One, as it represents that HTC is listening to at least some of its customers...and its a really solid device...but then I'm equally discouraged by the HTC first, which is another in the long line of stupid decisions where market fact have long since said that there's not a market for a "Facebook Phone. Here's hoping that somehow, some way...Facebook is eating at least some of the cost for that whole debacle, though I don't see it happening.

Wallstreet Journal states htc broke 5 mill as samsung states 10 mill as of last week. Then we have threads like this and others with the most obscure websites calling Wallstreet and samsung liers....and people come up in here and clamor about who is outselling who! The truth is out there.........

I couldn't agree more with you. But they're at least trying new things for a change. If they continue to make products like the HTC One, they won't be going anywhere for a while.
