Pull the tab marked "PULL" - void your warranty

ok guys. settle down or the thread is getting closed. change the subject back to the point of the thread

Unfortunately I was one of the people that pulled the tab. Ugh. But honestly, I've NEVER owned or seen a phone that had this. In fact, I had a crappy curve that I was constantly taking the battery out of with just with my hands, so I figured this would be the same.

As many people have asked "What were you thinking??" Well I thought it needed to be removed in order for the battery to touch something? Looking back on it, I realize that it was stupid. But I guess I was equating it when a child gets a new toy and the batteries are installed, but there's a piece of plastic that is between the battery and the metal piece inside. They insert that in there so that it doesn't drain the battery.

I'm assuming since there seems to be quite a few people that have done the same exact thing as me, they'll probably make an exception for it. If not, then I'll probably just cancel my insurance or just tell them it got stolen if something does happen.

Hi all - some of you have read my Slashdot journal on the Pull-tab and warranty.

My wife did get an email from Motorola confirming that her warranty was voided by pulling and tearing the tab, HOWEVER...

She spoke to someone else from Motorola yesterday who thought that sounded a little nuts, spoke to someone in support who confirmed that such an occurrence would NOT void the warranty.

This calmed things down for us a bit, but for the record we have:

Written: you voided your warranty
Verbal: you haven't voided your warranty

The Mrs. believes she has a little more cover now, and is finally actively using and enjoying her DroidX, but it'd be really great if Motorola would address this issue directly...

(will be reposting this to other fora where I have been active to update the situation).
