Purchased used Nexus off Craigslist...nightmare

Haha... no they wouldn't. Reps don't make money off of activating COAM equipment, so they wouldn't "take a quick spin" through your apps to see if it's rooted. They wouldn't care, nor know what that means.

I don't know why so many people assume the store reps don't root and mod there own phones.
Just because they aren't allowed to talk about it or encourage it doesn't mean they don't know about it.

I bet there are some reps who know how to mod and some that don't, just like anyone else who buys a phone.

Sure plenty of them. My local store, 1 repair tech claims he runs stock and the other guy shows me his rooted Evo while working on my phone.

Unfortunately the Galaxy Nexus has been having issues with the RF part of the device. It's documented all over these forums yet Samsung doesn't accept it. I have a Samsung Charge and was going to get the Nexus but after hearing about the RF issues, I decided to wait. Glad I did because then the Razr Maxx was introduced. Received it today. Haven't gotten home to play with it yet:) I'm sorry your having a bad experience with it, but I think the 4G is an inherant issue with it that hopefully Samsung can find a resolution on. I hope to be able to sell my Samsung Droid Charge on Craigs. Under a year old, new OEM battery, great condition and has never been routed. I didn't want to void the warranty:) Hope it works out for you.

OP, I would try insuring it with assurion or something. That way if you had to turn it in, you might be able to get another one.

In addition, you are 100% allowed to hook up a rooted device on your account. People need to realize it is legal to root your phone. You are not breaking any laws, lol.

Verizon just has the right to deny you on service claims if the device is rooted. Since you bought a used phone you won't have a warranty through Verizon anyway so why would they even care.

I think your phone is fine. It seems some batches of gnexus do have connectivity issues and some are fine. There are indications that Samsungs have a bit of qc issues.
As for rom recommendations, m4 is good, but if you look in the rooting section, the current buzz is for Crossbreed. It's a beast. :-)
