Hold the end you talk into further away from your face when you start a call. Once the screen goes black you can't hit that button. The sensor is my the part you place next to your ear.

+1. Just be more careful while the screen is still active.

Same problem here. In fact I have all kinds of issues that stem from the Dialer app.

I recently wiped everything out and went with a different ROM and I had several successful calls for a day and a half. Well last call I made today I somehow sent the phone into airplane mode. Called the guy back and same thing.

I get the muting problem all the time... and I'm not talking about during the first moments of a call when the sensor is active. I'm talking like 2 minutes into a call.

If I'm browsing around on my phone and someone calls- I cannot answer. It rings and rings and I am unable to do anything about it. Everything freezes.

Sometimes I can't hang up on people either. Its like the keys don't respond.

I use 2 different music apps many many times a day without any issues. I use 2 different email clients to mange 4 different email accounts with zero issues.

But that dialer app is a pain in my ass! This phone is NOT an iphone killer. I was lied to.

I've not had any issues with making calls, etc. As soon as I hit "send", I place the phone in talk position, and it goes black just like that. Pulling the phone away from my head, activates it again and I can press buttons, etc.

oh really? well pray it doesn't start happening to you.

a google search for fascinate muting turned up 3 people complaining about it. then i googled fascinate mute and found 1 more person with the issue.

i been trying to recreate it by moving my face all over the screen while on a call but no luck. it just happeneds on its own and so far I cannot figure out why.

i still suspect the dialer app.

I just googled: fascinate call can't hear me and came up with quite a few more with this problem.

hi,

i'm a new android user too and used to have this problem with my evo until i goggled it and saw so many others with the same issue.

the best answer that i found was in trying out (which i later bought) an app called screen suite. i don't use the other lock functions, but it has an option to lock the screen while on a call, which has worked wonders for me. i was seriously ready to turn the phone back in and go back to my bb if it hadn't had been for that app.

its a shame i had to pay for something that shouldn't have been a problem with the phone in the first place, but the 2 dollars i paid was worth all of the stupid muted calls and misdials.

@mypie I been spreading messages about this issue everywhere I can in the hopes that someone would come along with answers. I downloaded that app and set it up so it creates a lockscreen while I'm on a call. That just might work! 1 successful call so far. Thanks for the info!

Also for anyone else who might be interested... the Screen Suite app creates a lockscreen with a swipe to unlock similar to iPhone's lockscreen.
If you need to get to the keypad while on a call you simply swipe to unlock the temporary lockscreen and you have control of your phone again.

I need to do more testing with it to see if its a working solution to my own problems but it looks good so far.
