Putting NFC to work, at home and elsewhere..?

New N7 user, here.

Intrigued by NFC, I wonder what are the ways, present or future, to put it to work, at home or outside the home, beside the plain "device bump" bit?

Bluetooth is a bit the same to me... I need to study up on the current crop of compatible hardware.
