PVMtServiceStart

I never see it in battery manager, but i do see it under
settings > applications > manager applicattions > |running|

Had my phone since roughly 11am of the 18th and never touched the Blockbuster App. I just did the update of the program and turned off auto updates and did full phone shutoff and restart. Both PVMtpServiceStart & PVWmdrmService are still running so this is obviously not a fix unless I'm just one unlucky person out of 1000's but from seeing other people state they still see it running I doubt anything will completely fix this until root. Which is incredibly lame considering it is draining battery.

Agree. Not a fix. Still have them running.

As long as it's running and not eating battery don't worry about it until root comes to take it off.

You misunderstand.

The process will always be shown as running, but just because its shown as that doesn't mean its using battery.

This IS a fix. Prior to doing it this process was using 88% of my battery's resources. After it, it hasn't used a single percentage of it.

You need to look at the battery use menu to actually understand what is being discussed here; the process menu doesn't mean anything to this.

You're looking at the wrong menu. They can still be in the 'running processes' menu and not be using any battery. (because they aren't really running, since they're not allowed to poll blockbuster's server for updates)

Well think you made some assumptions when did I say mine wasn't still using my battery? Sure it is nothing like what is was doing before doing this process but mine is still loading memory and battery usage to PVMtpServiceStart friend :( nothing like it was before but it is still doing something on my Thunderbolt more then just "loading"

Android has a habit of loading stuff up that it thinks it needs. That doesnt always mean that it is using battery. From this blog Android Developers Blog: Multitasking the Android Way

"The fact that you can see an application's process "running" does not mean the application is running or doing anything. It may simply be there because Android needed it at some point, and has decided that it would be best to keep it around in case it needs it again. "

I dont understand tis at all. It does not show up in my battery management at all. However, it shows running in the running services menu. In fact it shows that it has been running for 4 hours straight yet it still does not show in the battery management.

I have been getting excellent battery life since I go the phone too. I wonder why it is draining battery on some phones while it does not on mine when it is clearly running non stop.

same here no drain for me, just runs all the time. ive been great use out of it.. and approximately close to 12 hrs of continuous use.. I did however follow Corey's post on conserving power use and turing off services not needed and keeping display turned down as low as it can go... but 12hrs.. is very good and 8 hrs is good too when you start using you tube and lots of the power hungry apps... I'm very happy with it.

I went into the Blockbuster app and installed the update and then went into the settings and disabled the automatic updating. Rebooted the phone and it showed right back up. I went in and stopped the process and it hasn't shown back up.

I haven't done the fix, but I did force close it in Applications. It has never shown up in my "What's using your battery" list, IS showing up as a running process. 71% of use right now has been Display.

Again, i don't think you have to worry about it running as long as it is not draining your battery. It isnt going away, you just want it to behave. Android can keep it running and at such a low priority that is uses no power. People shouldnt get into constantly trying to force close it if it isnt a battery drain.

I just stumbled across this thread while searching for this process name. I too just got a Thunderbolt. However, I was using the Phone Info app and there is a screen in there that shows "battery history". Under there, you can view CPU usage per process. When I do that and show the usage for all time, this process shows as top of the list. It shows at least 10-20 times more CPU usage than anything else.

As others have stated I do not see it in the battery usage screen in the settings, but I do see it in the running services list.

While it may not be doing much of anything it may be causing some sort of issue as it is registering some level of CPU usage.

Go to about phone-->Battery-->Battery use. If its there, its actually running. If it isn't, you have nothing to worry about.

Had the pvmtpservicestart battery drain today. Been at home on wifi all day and little use of the phone and my battery was down to 55%. Checking the stats it was indeed pvmtpservicestart. I just gave a reboot and going to continue to track it. I did the Blockbuster update\disable a few days ago when I read about it.

My guess is either the service is stuck in a loop or stuck trying to access a resource it can't find. Network or O/S.

But I agree with most, just because it's running doesn't mean it should be draining the battery. It actually needs to be actively taking up CPU.

Interesting. I see it running, but it is not draining my battery nor does it show up in settings > about phone > battery > battery use. I believe it has something to do with DRM. Maybe some other DRM issue woke it up and is keeping it busy? like an app or music / content that is protected and uses the service.

Yeah mine wasn't under Battery info, but it was one of the services running. I force stopped it, so hopefully I'll notice a difference. 80% of my battery is being used by my display...

you will not see any difference, if it's not taking up a significant amount under the "battery info" killing it will make an insignificant difference in your battery life.

I have the same kind of problem but I do not see how can I stop the auto updates. In the settings it simply does not allow me to choose that option. Neither it lets me to force stop it (the option is here, but it is not lit up as if already "off" and it does not react to touch). In the same time I do see that it is draining my battery (68% of usage) but it is not displayed in the running processes. Can you please advise me how to fight it? I am rather unexperienced user so I really need a simple instruction for dummies.

Just FYI: I've gotten rid of the blockbuster app and this service still runs. Never had the battery usage issue, in the first place. Just an FYI.

Just an FYI for you all, I had this issue when I first got my T-bolt. I updated the app and disabled the movie updates and I hadn't had the issue since - until today.

I remembered that I was doing some testing at work and I was connected to a wi-fi network. Late this morning I went in and disconnected from wi-fi, and by the time I got home from work my battery was half drained.

There another setting in the Blockbuster app called "Wi-Fi sleep policy" which I had set to never (never switch from wi-fi to mobile data).

So this is just a theory, but I think something went wonky when I disconnected from wi-fi, because of (or despite that) the sleep policy.
