Is anyone else having issues using Qik video chat on their Epiq. I can upload videos but I can never connect with anyone using video chat

I wish there was a way to connect to a pc again. Tried it before with skype through fring and it worked well, depite how bad the wifi card is on the hero.

I cannot record video, the program goes to Force Close! Anyone else having this problem? I have tried to record, or create a video message on both front and back cameras - what gives???

Yes, I used it with someone who has qik but a different phone (Evo) and it worked fine. However, we used the 3G service (because of the area we were in at the time). I believe with the 4G service it will be much better.

I used it with my Epic with someone with an Evo and we were both on wifi and it worked great. We tried it with 3g and the video was not so great.

I posted a thread here about how to set up QIK. You may want to search for it. Basically, first open the market and hit menu/download and see if it is due an update. Next, you have to understand that it tries to dial the first number in that individual's contact info. If that first number is NOT the mobile you will always get an error when trying to connect. You must delete that first number if not a mobile number (you can re add it at the end of the list if you still need it).

Ok made sure that mobile was first number listed. Still having the same problem. Can you post the link to your qik setup post?

Finally got it to work!!!

Ok, found a website with more details, to make a test call, type in the user name Qiktest2.

I was able to connect to their support people and they told me that contact dialing is a known issue. To make successful calls I should type in the user name and not use the contact in the address book (you only have to do this once, unless your clear your call log, then you'll have to re-enter).

I made several calls to the support username over 3G and Wifi, obviously WiFi worked much better.

Then attempted to dial my wife's phone using her Qik user name...

Hi,

There are a few reasons why video chat might not be successful. In the mean time, here are a few steps you can take.

1. Check that you have the latest update ,v03.745 Qik Video for the Epic and version 03.76 for Qik for HTC EVO 4G.

2. Place a call to the qik username of the contact instead of their phone number.

3. Currently, the app places a video chat to the first number that is stored in the contact's profile. If that number is not a video chat enabled number, then the call will not be successful. You might like to check that, and change the first number to a video chat enabled number on the contact's profile and try placing the video chat again.

4. Try to make a Video chat with more than just 1 person. Sometimes, the problem might be due to the other person's phone that you can't establish a connection.

5. Try making a video chat using a strong WiFi network. Sometimes the strength of connection influences the call.

6. Try signing out and signing in again and then make the video call and see if it works.

7. Try rebooting your phone (taking out the batteries for 30s and putting them back in), and make the call again.

if you like, you can make a test call with our product specialist and see if the problem lies with your phone. You can call us anytime from 10-11am PDT, and place the call to qik username, qiktest2.

Hope that helps.

Kelly

And...

Success!! The call went through!! :D

FYI: Attemped to add her Qik user name to her contact info, it will only allow the addition of numbers (123, etc) not letters.
