Q's on Pairing with Tablet

Sorry if this was asked before. I have several questions on pairing with a tablet (LTE Nexus 7) instead of a phone.

1. Can I pair with a LTE tablet? The reason for this question is I want to use LGWU2 phone number solely to make calls instead of the smartphone number. AFAIK, if there are 2 numbers that AW can make calls with (BT paired phone's number vs watch cell number), it will always ask which number to use without allowing to set one number as default. Sounds annoying to me, whenever making calls.

2. After pairing with tablet, can I leave the tablet at home with Wifi on and use its apps? I suppose yes, because it's true for paired smartphones.

3. What will be the disadvantage of pairing w/ tablet instead of a phone? The only thing that I can think of is phone calling capability, which I have zero need for.

4. This question is not related with tablet pairing but phone pairing. Suppose watch is bluetooth paired with a smartphone and both numbers are set up for Google Voice forwarding. If someone calls my GV, what will happen? Will the watch number be disabled because the watch is bluetooth paired with the phone?

Can you even install AW app on tablet?

The watch is designed to only take calls from one number. Can't do both.

Q1-Q3. Yes, AW is installed in my tablet. So can anyone answer Q1-Q3?

Q4. I think you misunderstood my question. Suppose the LGWU2 is BT connected to the phone. If I get a GV call, how will the watch ring?

a. it will ring the watch's own number
b. it will ring the phone's number
c. it will ring both numbers simultaneously.

Please note that I'm not asking whether the watch can take calls from 2 numbers. If you want to know why it matters, I can explain later. Aren't there any GV users here, who can experiment? It shouldn't be hard.

About Q4, I didn't misunderstood your question. Out of box, the watch only rings on calls to the watch's number. Calls to the phone will never ring on the watch.

When you go through hoops to enable 'Play BT audio' option on the watch, the calls to the phone will ring on watch but calls to the watch's own number will go straight to the voice mail. No rings.

Also, AFAIK, US versions of LTE tablets typically have its telephony components ripped off so that you can't place or answer calls to the data only LTE SIM. Is that no longer a case?

1. Thanks for confirming Q4. That's what I guessed in OP.

2. Correct, LTE tablets don't have Dialer app. So can't make SIM phone calls. (Note that, as stated in OP, Q4 is irrelevant to the first 3 LTE tablet questions.) Are you implying that the answers to both Q1 and Q2 are yes?

What happens to current firmware is a bug. The earlier Nov edition firmware doesn't have this issue. You can answer calls from either number, IIRC.

Is the problem with inability to receive a call on the watch number you described, happens only for GV calls on non-Nov edition? Or for usual calls also, when there are just 2 different phone numbers on phone and on watch?

I have the watch (Nov édition) paired to a Samsung Tab S2 tablet (LTE). I get all my texts sent to my tablet SIM number (my main telephone number)forwarded to the watch and i can call out using Hang Out from that tablet to any PSTN numbers out there (call out number is faked to match my tablet SIM number so people know it's me calling). I also have all calls placed to the tablet SIM number forwarded to my watch's SIM so all calls placed to me on that main number are received on the watch. I make most of my calls from the watch as well. Bluetooth is not really important in that scenario but i leave it on anyways.

I didn't say that (read my post, there are two different scenarios). But it is a big step backwards. They are expecting you to use AT&T's NumberSync all the time, not using watch to answer calls on the phone. NumberSync requires you to leave Cell radio on which drains battery much quicker (in addition to NumberSync app's own battery drain which is quite substantial).

The only advantage of the new 6.0.1 firmware have is support of AT&T's NumberSync and the ability to use BT headset connected to the watch for phone conversations (only for calls from Watch's cell radio, not with phone).

The problem with 6.0.1 firmware is that it's the only firmware except 2.0 which is available to flash. Thus if I'll flash 2.0 and then decide to rollback - I'll have to flash 6.0.1, because there is no 6.0 firmware published.

I don't need NumberSync at all.

So would you clarify, if I'll flash 6.0.1, completely turn off NumberSync, and activate the "Play BT audio" option in order to be able to answer phone calls on the watch - then it will become impossible to receive calls to watch number - is it correct?

This is not correct. On 6.0.1 and 2.0. With BT audio option not checked, my watch will not ring unless the call is specifically to the watch number this is because the watch is not seen as a bluetooth headset.

With the BT audio option checked(on) Calls to my phone ring on the watch(while in Bluetooth range) also calls sent to my watch number ring the watch also. When initiating a call from the watch with this option on you must choose which number you would like the call to come from, but only while in bluetooth range of the phone. While out of bluetooth range it will just call from the watch sim number.

OP this pertains to question 4.

If you forward your GV number to both at the same time it will ring on both at the same time(I do not know if it is possible to forward a GV number to 2 numbers.) Otherwise it will be treated like above. When out of BT range of the device the watch is basically standalone, but will use the tablet for hangouts and other apps like that. Texting will be possible from watch sim number and tablet sim number whether you are in BT range or not(as long as the tablet is powered on and connected to the internet)

Correct. The calls go straight to voice mail and your watch won't know anything about it.

EDIT: just tested this again, the result is totally different than what I got a few days ago. I can now receive phone calls to the watch's number. Must be something screwed up on my watch. I rebooted a few times since my last test.

Yeah, I was about to say.. Look at my post above yours for how it works...

Thanks for confirming what my logic predicted. Yes, GV can forward incoming calls to multiple phones. In my case currently mobile, home, and office. watch will be the 4th.

To prevent phone SIM ringing the watch in addition to the watch SIM ringing (when BT connected, which will be about 70% of the time), I've decided the watch will be BT paired with the LTE Nexus7 (which can't receive PSTN calls but still has free data).

PS: Sorry for asking all these questions. Currently, I'm weighing the pros and cons of the LTE watch for me before spending $350. I've solved all the issues so far thanks to you guys.

Unless you want to be the "first on your block", you may want to wait a few months. The new iWatch is coming out soon, which means a plethora of Wear (and proprietary) watches will be released in response. The trend is towards increasing standalone capability, so by year end we should have more than just the U2 to choose from.
