Quad Cities. Network and Coverage issues and 4G

Forget about sprint expansion of wimax. They are implementing lte.

That's as good of guess as any. However, there is no way to know which way Sprint is going at this point. It's conceivable that they finish WiMax rollout in primary markets with the LTE rollout. They may even do secondary markets too. They have so much 2.5GHz spectrum, that they can conceivably do both with the Network Vision upgrades.

And as you point out, they may stop WiMax expansion altogether. Not a single additional WiMax tower. Or, they might just finish a WiMax build out to 100% in the cities they already serve.

Sprint is being very tight lipped about it. Hopefully this will be one of the mysteries solved at the October 7th Meeting.

Ok we are now 4 days away from the date Sprint told me the network repairs would be complete. Has anyone noticed improvements in reception, dropped calls or data? I have noticed no improvement at all as of yet. I would have to believe that if they were doing the upgrades to to towers like they said someone would have seen improvements by now.

I have not noticed any improvement in the signal. My NS4G, my wife's EPIC, and my laptop are all just about useless at this point in time, especially when it comes to the internet.

I am hoping that this issue will be resolved very soon, as I have been a Sprint customer for 10 years, and it has never been this bad, at least for me...

Well its the first and no improvement so I called sprint. I talked to three different people in the last 3 days and got 3 different answers the worst of them was the down tower would not be fixed until sep 23. :mad:DOWN TOWER!!! wait a minute I was told the network was being upgraded in the quad cities and it was going to be complete aug 1. Sorry I was told. I see no network upgrades scheduled for your area. Looks like I fell for it again but this will be the last time. I had them cancel my contract. After13 years with sprint I have had enough. I really don't want to leave and give up my gold status and pay more for verizon but at least I will get the service I am paying for there. Good luck to any of you staying with sprint I hope one day they understand that they need to supply a good service along with a good price

Well, that's nice to know. I think I may be doing the same thing as well. I have always liked Sprint, and have never had theses issues. I understand the situation, and how the build-out of the network will be a benefit, but it is very frustrating when I have several devices (laptop, tablet, 3 phones) and they are just about useless when it comes to data and the internet.

I will definitely be giving Sprint a phone call about this. When you cancelled your contract, are you paying ETF's? Just curious.

No. They reviewed my records and decided they couldn't hold me to it with all the problems I have been having with there network

I called Sprint last night to discuss my network issues again. I don't want to switch carriers for several reasons, such as buying new devices, and the unlimited data issue.

After getting disconnected from the tech that I was speaking to, he tried several times to call me back, and could not get through. I received several voicemails about that.

The second tech, after going through the same stuff as the first, suggested that I bring "as many of my devices" as possible to a repair center to have them checked out. So, let me get this straight. You think that I have the amazing odds of having 2 phones, a tablet, and a laptop, that all have hardware issues, at the same time? They are going to be sending someone out to the area to check signals and whatever else they would check.

I have a ticket number for this (I think they called it a CTMS ticket?) and I assured the tech that I would be calling back in a few days. If they are not able to get this resolved, I will definitely be considering switching carriers. We will see...

Good luck with the ticket. Mine has been open for over two months with no progress. I just spent half the night looking over the last 10 PRLs that have been released over about a 6 month period and not a single one affects this area. While other parts of the county are allowed to roam on verizon's towers we are stuck roaming on us cellular only.
I understand what your saying. Now that my contract is canceled I am still stuck with them until I can afford to replace all three smartphones my family needs. I will say that I hope they fix the problems before I come up with the money to switch but I doubt it.

I dont know if anyone is even interested anymore but i found this while browsing the web today.

Its the FCC auction lists for Clearwire. On the list Davenport and Moline are listed as the same market area so if its true that they are just putting one tower in every market then Moline probably wont see any 4G for a while. At this raye by the time 5G is engineered and being deployed we might actually get 4G in the QC Area.

So for now my statement remains... FU Clearwire and Sprint

Yeah with sprint coming out yesterday saying they are switching to lte pretty much put an end to wimax in the qc. From what i can tell sprint is putting all there money into there biggest markets and brushing everyone else off. At this point if you can afford it vzw is the best option for our part of the mid west. The only reason im still on sprint is the new nexus prime isnt out yet.
If you are thinking of waiting for sprint lte remember this. Sprint had over a year head start with wimax over vzw lte. As of today 2/3 of the qc is without wimax and vzw lte covers the entire qc area.

For me, switching to Verizon would cost me another $100 a month. I like the fast speeds, but usually when I need to do heavy internet usage (streaming, upload, download files) I use wifi. I had service issues with Sprint, and they not only cancelled my contracts, but sent me an Airave at no charge. Since then, I haven't had any issues with Sprint. For me, the faster data is nice, but not nice enough to switch.
