Apologies for the noob question but I was wondering if any charging docks for the Z3 allow data transfer?

Same question with regards to the magnetic charging cables. If one of the main reason to use the magnetic port is to preserve the flap, it doesn't make much sense if you still have to use the flap to transfer data.

Thanks for any help :)

I think the idea is that most people don't transfer data as often as they charge their phone. Plus there are apps that allow data transfer over WiFi.

I see your point, but I think it's fair to say that the majority of times people plug in to charge is generally far more frequent than transferring data.

It's not just to protect the flap. It's just generally a smarter way to charge a device, especially a water "proof" device. And, honestly, I cannot recall the last time I transferred data via USB. Maybe with my original EVO?

The charging dock and cables only charge. If you want to transfer date, I recommend a Wi-Fi transfer app. You have to open the flap to access the USB if you wanted to charge and or transfer that way

The magnetic charging port on Xperia devices to date does not support data transfer.
To date? Better make that never--the magnetic charging port only has TWO contacts. How's it going to do data without the other pair of wires? Sony may even have tested with four contacts and determined it to be too error prone with bumping or vibration.

I think I used USB data one time in 3 years with my last phone. MyPhoneExplorer in WiFi mode.

Well, yeah. But my point was that they could change the design in the future. Doubtful, though.
